Why Lionsgate will depend more on Saban/Disney Power Ranger characters than they have to

They could possibly not do it as Mighty Morphin was the most popular incarnation of the franchise.

1. They have access to them, so why not use em?
2. DC/Star Wars other franchises that have some comic books, milk using a character well or un-known to synergize with the rest of their universe.
3. We live in a postmodern world where reference and Easter Egg is more important that quality of story.
4. They already did like crazy with Zeo Crystals and Mariner Bay. Their goal now is basically to milk it as much as possible.

Why Tommy doesn't have to be the Green Ranger in Power Rangers.

The cast wants it.
Sure, he was introduced, but that doesn't mean he'll be the White Ranger
For all you hating the idea of a female Green Ranger, there already is one with Rita and no one is complaining. This change was equally as controversial as say giving the Phantom Ranger an identity instead of a man of mystery, a mistake they made with Sam in Power Rangers SPD.
This is a film about a Ranger dealing with sexual orientation and a man of the spectrum so you want it to be less open minded?
