An alternative to Saban Brands Ameritoku scheduling Part 2: the solution

We could talk about some topics covered already:

Let's go back to scheduling the Shinkenger-Decade teamup.
Fans really wanted something crazy to happen like during Gokaiger when they tried to teamup as much as they could with their budget.
Saban should've tried something like this.
Imagine the alternative:

2010:
Power Rangers Lost Galaxy at 11am on Vortexx.
Power Rangers Samurai at 12pm on Nickelodeon.
Clash of the Power Rangers a teamup between RPM and Samurai

2011:
Note: Saban bought the footage for the Samurai-Decade teamup.

  • Power Rangers Super Samurai at 12pm on Nickelodeon
  • Masked Rider Decade at 12:30pm on Nickelodeon
  • A Friend in Need Part 4, Teamup somewhere halfway in the season.
  • Clash of the Friend in Need, an RPM-Samurai-Decade special

2012:
Note: Kaizoku Sentai Gokaiger happened last year

  • Power Rangers Angelforce vs Megaforce at 12 pm on Nickelodeon. Combine the two shows. Have less hours for both workers.
  • Masked Rider Super Decade, where he gets his upgrade and fights Dex at 12:30pm on Nickelodeon
And to further celebrate the 20th Anniversary of Power Rangers:
  • VR Troopers: The (Mini) Movie, featuring the Space Sheriffs, since Shaider already had a movie.
  • Beetleborgs III, where they do some tricky bs with the Space Sheriff Trilogy footage. What they do with Ryan Season II, who really cares?

2013:

  • Power Rangers Ultra Angel Force vs Super Megaforce at 12pm on Nickeledon
  • Masked Rider Double at 12:30 pm
  • Masked Rider Triple at 1 pm after they've gotten even more money from toys and ratings the previous year
Including:
  • Power Rangers Ultra Angel Force vs Masked Rider Double
  • Power Rangers Super Megaforce vs Masked Rider Triple
  • and
  • Beetle Battlers at 1:30 pm on Nickelodeon

What would Beetle Rangers be you ask?
Would it be some sort of US produced Beetleborg sequel or something?
Sort of.
It'd actually be an adaptation of Tokumei Sentai Go-busters since the show's 4th and 5th aren't even technically Rangers making it a different kind of show a la VR Troopers, since Yasuko Kobayashi again like with Ryuki made a show that was so radically different from its predecessors that fans would consider it non-Ranger like even. Heck, I would say it was very Metal Heroes-like, hence the Beetle name like J-Stag.

How Saban could manage a quality show when they already can't handle one show would be beyond me, but at least from a marketing and business perspective, people would get what they want and fans who wouldn't know any better would be happier.
Maybe they could've took some risks since they were at risk of losing all their fans, like they did this season!
Not to mention,
"Please Saban! We will give you ratings and money to watch this show!"
"Sorry, we don't want your ratings or money! We're not trying to run an art show, entertainment business or anything of that sort!"

2014:
Power Rangers Dino Charge at 12 pm on Nickelodeon
Masked Rider Super Double at 12:30 pm
Masked Rider Super Triple at 1 pm
Super Beetle Battlers at 1:30 pm
Power Rangers Time Force at 11 am on Vortexx.
Masked Rider Super-1 cuz why not at 11:30 pm

Phew!
I'm finished!
Hope you've enjoyed!

An alternative to Saban Brands Ameritoku scheduling Part 1: a business that doesn't respond to art, critics or money

(Neo) Saban Brands shows... have sucked. Their idea to resign with Nickelodeon was a horrible decision. And there may be a saving grace with Judd Lynn, although the theme song is already screwed up with the lyrics "Rangers Together!" demonstrating an ignorance of what fans actually like or associate with this genre.

However, let's not talk about that. Let's just talk about how they decided to adapt stuff Shinkenger and beyond.
They had an opportunity to have another show, such as Masked Rider Decade after purchasing the Decade-Shinkenger footage. Missed opportunity there.

They then decided to adapt Goseiger and Gokaiger into one season. I liked the Morphin-Zeo idea, albeit, why would you make the most popular season of Super Sentai ever into only one half a series, a twenty episode one at that?
Not only to mention, you technically start the twentieth anniversary season without the actual teamup specials from the Gokaiger series, since you start with Goseiger.
We can go on about the many story flaws in the season, but again, that's not the point here.
Just how you scheduled the adaptation doesn't make sense from a marketing perspective.
Saban said they wanted to appeal to both new and old fans, a demographic crisis and case study we may or may not explore later and the schedule doesn't make sense.

Saban then purposely discontinued a series that I didn't like, but many others did, Tokumei Sentai Go-busters, because they were behind in the schedule and for whatever reason, possibly since Jurassic World was coming out, wanted to adapt Kyoryuger ahead of their terrible Nickelodeon two seasons of twenty episodes. They sell less toys this way, and don't invigorate a product they already have lots of fans hating the original half a season in the first place, following up with an even worse second half a season.

Onto an alternative I have for the season.

Yasuko Kobayashi Month: The Keys to Understanding OOO: The strength of the screenplay: Dr. Maki's relationship to the rest of the characters

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ubKKwhNC3Mg
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gkC2ua4FRqQ

For most people, O's is written OOO,
when it should be written: O
                                       O     O

After all, Yasuko Kobayashi's previous work was on the Yu-gi-oh movie, where a pyramid was a key aspect of the episode. The pyramid is significant because of the ancient human belief in the strength of the number 3: the Holy Trinity, being a great example in Christianity and the Pyramid in Egyptian mythology/Ancient religion.
3 is also the holy number for the Kamen Rider Series at the time,
coming after Decade, the 10 in 1, Rider,
and W, the 2 in 1 Rider.
OOO forms his powers from 3 different (or SPOILER ALERT:
same) animal pieces to become a more powerful being.

OOO the show and the character also forms many triangular relationships.
The most obvious being Hina-Eiji-Ankh and their friendship.
The less obvious becoming Eiji-Kougami-Dr.Maki
There's also the Rider relationship of OOO-Birth-Birth Prototype.

The beginning of OOO happens for two reasons:
1) The Greed become unleashed.
2) Because Kougami gives Eiji the OOO driver.

Kougami chooses OOO and researches OOO as part of an obsession he has with that kind of power.
Dr. Maki has the same obsession, but instead uses it for evil, because of a mental illness he's developed from the past.
Both Eiji and Dr. Maki eventually have an arc regarding purple OOO medals, turning Dr. Maki into a parallel character, and foil for Eiji, or making them two parts of the same coin. Eiji has no desire for OOO at all and only uses it as a method to save other people, while Maki is obsessed with OOO and wants to use it to destroy the world, reaching an end.
Eiji comes from a war-filled Africa, much like Birth, and wants to save people. He

Dr. Maki
vs Kougami
Toei is the good Lockheed Martin
Gorangers and cyborg 009 got their powers from black ghost and I believe dr. Maki once worked for kougami unless I'm mistaken. 48 I was afraid of what would happen after kougami gave him the lost powers
The terrible humor in the beginning
to the tolerable humor in the end
Maki gave birth in attempt to get OOO.
So there is that war corporations can spawn evil considering he became the big bad
Yeah it's interesting in that he creates a black ghost
And more suspenseful is that you don't even see how!

The strength of Ankh's character in the beginning
to the strength of Eiji's plot in the end.

Is Ankh child missing Ankh arm or the other way around?
The Ankh child is also a literal representation of Ankh trying to remove his dark past.

My Top 5 favorite Yasuko Kobayashi Toku (2014)

5 ToQger:
There's a lot of subtext to the shows regarding Kubrickian themes of war, and lust, much like Space Dandy, Dr. Strangelove and A Clockwork Orange.
Light vs Dark is downplayed so much to really appeal to kids.

4 Ryuki
This was a real historic game changer for Toei. Out with the more conventional monsters of the week, and in with the Kamen Rider enemies instead. We'd see it again in larger Kamen Rider shows such as Kabuto and Gaim again.
There's a lot of subliminal themes in the show, but I don't why. Even in comparison to ToQger, it seemed a bit lightly scripted for the given narrative. Why does everybody hate Asakura if he doesn't really kill people? Why is Zolda a good guy in the end? (Maybe I'm missing something.)
It really does come full force as a Shotaro Ishinomori themed Kamen Rider though if you really pay attention.

3 Time Ranger

  • This was her really breakout moment in tokusatsu.
  • The non-Red leader,
  • The Red Sixth Ranger,
  • The Y2K theme present in Ryuki and Gobuster.

So many good moments.

2 OOO
I really like a lot of things about this screenplay, such as the Dr. Maki-Eiji parallel.
The first half's narrative is a bit of a turnoff, but if you give it some patience, you'll get a great payoff.

1 Shinkenger
It's a well written character's drama in a supposed hero's journey which is really more of a criticism of Japan's old customs.

Yasuko Kobayashi Month: Kamen Rider OOO Episode 5 Analysis

This analysis will be brief as there was only really one scene I liked in this essentially two part episode.
The episode really gets you thinking about the characters. Everyone except regretably OOO is a little dark, creating Greed that is essentially destroying the city. The female Greed's friend that buy so much that you find on later on in the episode. In addition, Ankh is a dark pharoahish character, while Mr. Cake Kougami is essentially a big corporate guy: two big powerful Illuminati-ish figures.
You hear me say a lot about the Illuminati and I'm a 99%er, etc.. However, this episode's approach to explaining the rich is a little bit too diluted. Rich people buying cheap products and their expendability.
Sure, we probably wouldn't see Shotaro Ishinomori writing pro-1% shows when he was taking over, and it's a little fishy that a company like Bandai/Toei would write something like this, but we still have to examine in the series what exactly is Kougami and Ankh's ideals, as well as hidden subtexts in the show the writers/directors might've gotten away with prior to the executives stopping the auteur from acting further.
"It's a cheap product. Maybe it suits you better."
Furthermore it seems like it is actually the female protagonist's friends who are discriminating, albeit it may be a bit of spirituality, environmentalism or Shintoism that was brought up in their culture that taught them not to waste and that everything has a use.

"Why can't she live in a rich school?"
It is sort of discriminatory and stereotyping to analyze the person rich, so she can do anything rather than analyzing habits she may have gained that are later analyzed in the episode. Sure, they're not worth while, but the lesson is still to be learned there.
It is possible that she just grew up the wrong way.
Heck, many non-rich people buy things that they do not need in the US only to throw it away. The US is a major consumer based economy, where everybody buys things they don't need.

Also, OOO needs underwear and candy. OOO Japan!

Yasuko Kobayashi Month: Powerful Pinks

In Super Sentai, Pink has been associated with good feminine role model in Yasuko Kobayashi's works.
Ginga Pink's been dubbed strong and is more powerful than her yellow counterpart.
TimePink is the leader of Mirai Sentai Timeranger.
Bouken Pink is the militaristic loyal one of GoGo Sentai Boukenger
Shinken Pink, is one of the more powerful Samurai Sentai Shinkenger with a sword.
ToQ Pink is the uber powered Ressha Sentai ToQger thanks to her imagination
All 5 besides ToQ Pink have had an attraction with the Red counterpart, albeit we haven't gotten that far with ToQger yet.
Flower Warrior Saya has an admiration for Hyuuga.
Much like that is similar to that of BoukenPink to BoukenRed, leading her to both Pinks to becoming more powerful.
Shinken Pink marries Shinken Red in an episode!

On a side note, it's a little coincidental that Kobayashi decides to make Tsukasa/Kamen Rider Decade into Kamen Rider Den-O during their crossover episode, considering that Decade's the first Pink Rider.

Yasuko Kobayashi month: Reason to watch OOO: Abarenbo Shogun teamup

During the same year OOO premiered, Kaizoku Sentai Gokaiger had a teamup of all 199 Super Sentai characters.
I DON'T GIVE A SHIT!
Abarenbo Shogun is the shit.
I grew up watching this on the NJ NHK programming block on weekends. The plot's were pretty standard Showa stuff, but with great actors and choreography. Not really cheesy like Adam West Batman, although it had the great stunt choreography involved.
And then, they make it cheesy anyway.

And then, Eiji from OOO, does every single OOO combination while fighting a friggin CGI dragon.
Take that, Lord of the Rings. This is friggin awesome. Watch this teamup! It's great!

Power Rangers Zeo "It Came From Angel Grove" is actually a predecessor to Kamen Rider Decade and other stuff

Let's start with some asides,
This episode was a lot of fun, with tons of extras and production stages, replicated again for when they are shown when Adam watches It Came From Hackensack.
It's hilarious when the werewolf jumps in the bush.

From what you know of It Came From Hackensack is that it is an ensemble movie monster episode. There's no reference to the Jason David Frankenstein monster in Mighty Morphin, yet it is interesting how he becomes a vampire monster this episode.
And they convert back to color when encounter the Wizard of Oz, just like in Victor Fleming's 1939 film, the inspiration for Zordon.
And he wakes up as if they were all there like in the Wizard of Oz.
Also, in 1939, they would consider the Wizard of Oz a horror film, just because it had a witch in it, albeit witches weren't that popular in horror films, notably in the Michael Myers lacking, Halloween 3: Season of the Witch.

The episode uses characters based on characters in the show, to create a dream-like logic.
Tomecula is obviously named after Tommy,
Cat is a black cat or Valencia, like her villainous persona in the 3rd season of Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, possibly named after a Australian area island.
Rocky is Lord Henry/Harry, like his Blue Ninja Ranger Power self, a wolf.
Tanya is the Bride of Hackensack.
Billy is Baron von Hackensack
Lt. Stone the Burgermeister
Bulkenhotep
Zordonicus and Zordon
Destroying Zordon and the Earth
Adam's potential for evil.
They are either acknowledged as two different characters or some sort of Invasion of the Body Snatchers conspiracy, much like the AR Riders.

Mighty Morphin Power Rangers "Life's a Masquerade" Moments

Since it's Halloween season, I'd decide to share with you my favorite moments from a Mighty Morphin Power Rangers' "Life's a Masquerade."

I really like the soundtrack. It's classic 80s horror, in addition to orchestral. This episode should have its own soundtrack.

Billy predicts that the Frankenstein Monster is Tommy.
Yeah, Billy, you smart alec, it's not Tommy.

They really needed red eyes for the Frankenstein Monster.

The clown architecture at Ernie's is very interesting.

The super putty is interesting too.

Zordon you dumb moment:
He lets Tommy get captured by putties in plain sight.

Followed by Rita dumb moment:
Letting the putties not distract Tommy more as the Rangers are almost defeated by the Frankenstein Monster.

Followed by another Zordon smart alec moment:
Zordon knows that Tommy's done fighting the putties, so he doesn't contact him till after he's done holding them off, knowing that Tommy and the Rangers are in trouble!

MMPR Season 2: "The Monster Mash" Analysis

"Hey Ernie. Have you seen Jason, Zack and Trini?" Kimberly says in a sweet manner.
"No. I guess they're still with that group in the elementary school."

What happened to Tommy?
Let's contact him but not the other Rangers!

"What about the others?"
"They're still with the children. There's nobody else they can leave with them."
But you just said that all the children were accounted for!

This is one of the most shady episodes in Power Rangers history.
They fired the original 3 Power Rangers, while setting up a bunch of Halloween props this episode where they probably could've paid the staff with.
AJ and David try their best to give a proper sendoff.
BUT THEY WERE FIRED!
They don't discuss the problems of having childhood friends in distant places pre-internet.
They just worry about their dumbass Haim Saban Power Rangers team.
And then Tommy shows up discussing how he dropped of Jason, Zack and Trini after Jason David Frank basically replaced and fired them!
And the episode has multiple kids dressed up as Power Rangers, when Austin, Thuy and Walter are off screen, being written off!

Robogoat, one of Tommy's archnemeses is beaten up by a non-Japanese footage Kimberly for some odd reason. If it was a Jason only nemesis, I would understand, but he isn't.

Jason, Trini and Zack show up.
"Hey Tommy!" is the only word any of them (Jason) says this episode.

In the end of the episode, they save on the budget so much, just by having them only Pumpkin Rapper, in what really could've been an epic battle, considering how Pumpkin Rapper was not the only monster who was resurrected by Key and Gravestone.
You don't stand a ghost of a chance! What is with people and that saying?
And there's a random scene where it cuts to Kimberly saying, "Balls!"

"The Power Rangers probably have the ability to shrink."
Which they do when they grow in ZEO or
When they get shrunk by Divatox in Turbo,
Contrast to when Justin grows.

Also as awesome as the song fight is during a fight scene, the song uses multiple plural nouns during the film, subliminally making fans think there's more Rangers than there actually are.

Also, I don't get the point of firing the 3 (in case you didn't notice!)
You set up an entire new Halloween set for this episode with like 50 voice actors for like the monsters used this episode.

Power Rangers Super Megaforce, Vrak is Back Part 1 is a shitty rushed piece of ca-ca

"You either die the hero or you live long enough to see yourself become the villain."
You figure being called Dark Robo Knight something like that would've came across. But no. No references to that at all, despite making a RoboCop reference previously.
And he's sort of become Christopher Nolan's, Harvey Two-Face being brainwashed by the Joker in a tense scene.
But no-
We get no shit.

It looks like it was originally supposed to be at least 3 parts, and Gosei Blue was the main character.
Noah again noncharacteristically from last season, but characteristically from this season. And then they give him practically no lines!

Why do they motherfucking keep giving Troy lines?
It's a fucking Noah episode footage wise. Exposition wise it's another villains episode. Who cares if he's the Red Ranger? He's not leading. He's not the heart of the time in this situation. He doesn't even bother fighting Vrak this episode.
He doesn't do anything important this episode.
He's not the smart guy. He's not delivering good takes. Let someone else deliver lines.
The episode has Orion being drained
The episode has Robo Knight turn bad.
Troy used to have Robo Knight moments at the beginning of the season?
Any connection?!
NO!
Except we have a reference to Troy's Dream since he's on the bus like in the first episode of Megaforce.
Happy Halloween!

One good line I enjoyed this episode that they completely throw away is how Noah is a science person and how Vrak wants to turn him to the dark side.
They're obviously never going to do that with him, but at least they showed creativity when creating that line.
They ADAPTED SOME SHIT!

Taking back what I said about Dino Thunder

A lot of what happened in Dino Thunder didn't work for me. These are the points that didn't, which I'll eventually explain a year later in another article, but I'll explain why they appeal to fans for now.
Another Tommy ship with a woman whose age they don't establish (although it doesn't really matter in Power Rangers Hollywood)
The Anton Mercer storyline has elements of in Space, Time Force, and Blade Runner, but sorta trivializes the corporate matters of the show, possibly due to Disney actually caring whether a corporation can look bad, something Michael Eisner probably did not want to show to his friends.
Conner isn't likeable and there's not really a reason for it, unlike what Toei does with Takumi in Faiz, and that should appeal to "anti-Disney" Disney fans who want an edge to their characters.
Kira can sing.
Ethan's a nerdy guy, whose a bit darker than Billy dealing with a bully that he's actually afraid of.
They have cool powers.
Trent is the new Tommy and Disney never capitalized on it.

This show attempted to mix Time Force with Mighty Morphin and it didn't quite work for me. Disney never seemed to be G1 Saban fans, but we should appreciate them for their individuality and image unlike G2 Saban.

The Dairanger-Gorma empathy

I'm not a biggest fan of this series, although I think the beginning an excellent followup to previous series:
You have the Traitor storyline right after the classic Burai storyline, showing that the tale's a bit inspired by Japanese pop culture of the 1980s with characters such as Char Aznable, Hakaider, etc..
You have the Japanese youths mimicking that of the tropes that had defined Jetman, Turboranger, etc..

Dairinryuu was a great addition to the series, being such a big bad toy that probably inspired Dark Spectre later on, showing how all living creatures are part of a universe and how we should take care of it, (ignoring whenever the scientific end of the Universe is)
There's a bit of some plot holes with the Master Kaku and Gorma revelation storyline, but again, that was thematically powerful with the rest of the show with the Traitor storyline, giving the Dairangers a bit of a connection to Gorma in the show like the Baka Gorma and Jin did.

And Kou is also a reflection of being a bad kid like Shouji who is obviously modeled after 80s Japanese and even US punks like Yu Yu Hakusho's Kuwabara. That connection brings him close to his twin brother and family associated with Gorma.

My favorite character from Cisco Davis Jr's Teenagers With Attitudes

Kimberly

What made her stick out from most fans was that she was a pretty pink annoying and smart valley girl.
This incarnation of Kimberly is different. Her character challenges audiences, but is done first class. She's realistically written smart. She's rich, but opportunistic, really turning into a character instead of being one. She's not a valley girl trope and is instead, a valedictorian, selfish, female.
I would like to see her do the underly overdone cliche of becoming a misinterpretation of media, leading to the downfall of the Rangers, or possibly having a hand in keeping their identities secret using media.

My Power Rangers Super Megaforce, "All Hail Prince Vekar" opinion reminds me of my Batman and Robin

"You know what killed the dinosaurs?" "The Ice Age!"
I grew up in the 90s. Arnold Schwarzenegger was in.
Those films are a lot of fun. I love that type of stuff. I wish he would yell that out everytime I see Commando.

By the time the 2000s got here though, people got sick of Arnie

People hate Batman and Robin.
They treat it like the plague.
They treat it as the worst thing since 3D.
I recently watched it and enjoyed it.

Yeah for no apparent reason, they like the Avengers which is just as self-indulgent and mindless.

Speaking of which, why did I like this episode of Power Rangers Super Megaforce, by the way?

Because my mind was thrown out the window.

After a wonderful vacation, post that terrible thing known as "The Perfect Storm," I got back to analyzing episodes completely throwing out the my critical mind out the window.
As much as I enjoyed the episode, audiences watching "All Hail Prince Vekar" probably react to the episode with the same amount of pain Bane and Batman felt in the Dark Knight Rises in a pit where they, paralyzed and unable to escape were stuck watching Batman and Robin! The jokes weren't cringeworthy and followed a certain logic, but at least Arnold did his most Arnoldyist! Vekar says a bunch of sentences that are from a joke book, but it's as if the voice actor is reading them off the page opposed to performing them in front of an audience.
Furthermore, the episode has to do with the themes of death and family, like in Batman and Robin with Alfred's death and sons not listening to fathers while wanting to prove something.

Power Rangers Super Megaforce, "All Hail Prince Vekar" should've been a villains centric episode

I don't like Man of Steel.
I don't like the Dark Knight Rises
I don't like the Amazing Spider-Man
I don't like the Avengers.
2012, really sucked.
BUT
At least it didn't have Power Rangers Super Megaforce!
They have their positives, while Super Megaforce had them then completely destroyed their valiant efforts.

Power Rangers Super Megaforce, "All Hail Prince Vekar" sucks, but doesn't matter due to lowered standards

Jason Smith seemed like he was basically told to write down whatever the production crew told him to do, but do what he can with the dialogue.
And he tried his best!
With some help from Judd Lynn, we will hopefully see some better work.

Vekar's "jokes" still suck, not being serious enough to be cool or campy enough to be hilarious.
You really appreciate both the Japanese and American voice actor for Damaras on this show, since:

  1. The Japanese voice actor just blows the American's performance way out of the park
  2. The American voice actor worked with what he could in such a short time span and with such an incompetent ADR director. In spite of all the trials and tribulations he went through, he made it across to youngsters that Vekar's life is in danger and that he cares for his Prince, given some sort of possible brainwashing or propaganda that led him to this state. It's quite powerful storytelling given what the show should not have and reaches above expectations, even if it does seem like a bad Power Rangers Samurai copy and paste, (It's just the state of things we're at now.)
Vekar is able to appeal to the VERY FEW of those who buy into his humor, while at the same time conveying some sort of giving him a western adaptation of an underdog role. It really should've been a two part episode, but oh well. It also would've been interesting if Vekar was given a line of respect for Troy being leader of the Power Rangers Super Megaforce or condemning him for it, given the nature of the episode being "adapted" into being an episode about failure, accomplishment, and honor, one of the very lessons that the father series Mighty Morphin Power Rangers was about. That would've been something interesting I would've played around with and definitely could've been done.
Oh and Troy dies and nobody cares.

Power Rangers Super Megaforce, "All Hail Prince Vekar" sucks, but doesn't matter due to lowered standards

Troy nearly dies.
His bad takes still survive.
All of us cry.
FOR THE WRONG REASONS!

Random RPM powers!

Noah fights Argus to the death after what seems to be Mighty Morphin Power Rangers teleportation without the effects!
Noah all of a sudden is a master swordsman again! I hated it in the first half of the season, but "The Perfect Storm" lowered the standard so much that I really don't care anymore.

The 15th Anniversary to Fight Club: My first reaction

This film really hit me as I was personally and cinematically growing. When I first became a film critic in 2011, I was doing a review for Moneyball and The Tree of Life and analyzed Pitt's performances throughout his career. A major standout for me was Fight Club. Granted, Palahniuk and Fincher helped made the film become as classic as it did, but Pitt's presence as a jack of all trades, actor, producer and media superstar helped bring my attention to this film.
My first reaction to this was the anti-establishment, anti-Western themes of anti-religion, anti-government, anti-law and society. It really blows you away with those themes much like the Matrix did the same year. (I'm really glad my cousins had both DVDs in their house!)
Fight Club established a fraternity among men in the US. Religious men, right wing men, conservative men, manly men, womanly men, Transexual men. Men who are heterosexual, but have lost their sexual appetite because their hormones are up to speed. The rise of Phen-Phen and Viagra. Sports: Wrestling, Boxing, Kickboxing, Mixed Martial Arts, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, Other Jiu Jitsu.
The Napoleonic and Anti-Disney Princess uprising of the 1990s.
White leaders trying to transform the minds of white men in times of the Unabomber and Middle Eastern terror threats thanks to United States President and Capitol Hill cohort establishments.
The US foreign policy that got them in trouble in 2001 that led to even more deaths in the Middle East. The narrator also does what Tyler does, but doesn't understand it, nor comprehend it.
Fight Club is also a tale of the mentally ill that run and ruin our lives. Prisoners, such as Tyler Durden getting a pass. (Also not to mention that the Narrator is Tyler Durden's prisoner.)
"Our fathers were our models to God. If our fathers failed, what does that tell you about God? (Listen to me) You have to consider the possibility that God does not like you, never wanted you. In all probability, he probably hates you. We don't need him. F*** damnation. F*** redemption. We are Gods unwanted children. So be it." "First you gotta know that someday you're going to die. It's only after we lost everything that we're free to do anything." The multiple uses of the narrator and his perception of Tyler Durden as a religious, government and societal Jesus figure, especially through the lye torture, in the middle of his lying. The role of the job in post modern society. The scariness of sanity and religion conflicting in the 1990s, much like religion in There Will Be Blood. Having religious figures work on accidents vs statistics and making those decisions while being in a part of religion. The use of making people feel powerful with power or even counterpower to make oneself feel even more powerful than them.
I had this idea that people never wanted to be themselves, but wanting to be somebody else, like a dictator or a rockstar or a billionaire. That was what the false American dream had turned to be and look at how Tyler Durden and Project Mayhem and turned into, ruining that promise.
And I really did not get the ending, which I think is why producers didn't want to present this film in addition to the bad depictions of credit lenders, Ikea and Starbucks.

Best of the Green Ranger

Jason David Frank may embarass the fans sometimes, but sometimes his acting comes through.
  1. The Green Dream: Plays the future and fear aspects way better than Green No More.
  2. Fins and Needles: Great Jason vs Tommy fight scenario
  3. Gung Ho: Opposite of Fins and Needles
  4. The Power Stealer: A Tommy losing powers scenario
  5. The Beetle Invasion: Same
  6. The Song of Guitardo: Tommy and Kim episode
  7. Football Season: Tommy fights one of his toughest opponents with the Rangers almost gone: Touchdown!
  8. The Spit Flower: Another one of the most difficult fights for the Rangers. Tommy helps out a bunch
  9. Mighty Morphin Mutants: It's Mutant Time!
  10. The Green Candle Part 2: Walter Emmanuel Jones does a good job setting up the idea that Tommy could die. Saban Brands adds to their legacy.
  11. The Mutiny Part 2:
  12. Return of an Old Friend Part 2
  13. Doomsday Part 2
  14. Two Heads are Better Than One
  15. The Mutiny Part 1

NYCC 2014 Month

I'll be really busy for New York Comic Con Month
Several of the following have previews at the con:

Image
Harry Potter
LOTR
Lego Batman 3 is coming out.
Batman and Marvel plan on celebrating their 75th Anniversary, even if I may not.

The Dare Devil movie sucked because Ben Affleck was getting sucked off by Jennifer Lopez and Katie Holmes in a Scientology The Master billy club three way.
Seriously though, it's not that great, but it didn't deserve the bashing it got.
I still think the Electra/Dare Devil sequence is funny but well intended.

The Incredibles
Disney Theme Park movies

I definitely plan on doing a best of Green Ranger episodes.
A best Green Ranger/White Ranger/Tommy episodes list is long overdue and he'll be at New York Comic Con, where he'll be too busy signing autographs to interview. Sure, everybody else would enjoy him at the con. No Dino Charge news either..

Star Trek really channels the child in me, and the technical jargon's great, but the direction and writing haven't been too classy.

Somebody might want to be Firefly. I doubt I will.

Dr. Who I might cover Matt Smith if I have the time to watch all the episodes.

The Rainbow Line's connection to darkness as seen from ToQger Episode 19-29

Shadows use the ToQ6's drill setting up later, when Schwarz steals it again in 29.
The parallel between them connecting and them not connecting.

19 Comedy that actually works unlike most Toei Toku nowadays.

20 Switching with evil
Shadow and ToQger vs Shadow
The bubbles falling in the sunset look like tears.

26 Bathouse bribery
Price leading and how Wal-Mart hurt the world.
OOO

27 Change in direction. Mood?

28 Right uses his inner self to attack
Hikari is the mysterious one that never reveals who he is representing the secrets of the ToQgers.

29 A member of Shadow and ToQger finally join sides in a Gaim-like manner.

31 Being exposed to too much darkness making them dark

Top sdcc news

5 Gareth Edwards' Godzilla 2 featuring Rodan and Ghidorah: I placed this so low on the list, because you have to be careful of overencorporating too many crossovers at the same times, especially in this era of Batman, Supermans, and the Avengers. I think Edwards is given more control than those studios. And he definitely takes more risks than the average director. But is that enough for a classic?

4 Guardians of the Galaxy: The Animated Series
Disney, a company I worked for, which emphasized synergy did all a great move by advertising a
My main concern however is that mostly Star Wars and Marvel projects on Disney XD suck! (Do you really want to compare them to the quality of shows such as Batman: The Animated Series, Rugrats, Recess, Doug, or even Kim Possible? You can't!)

3 Galaxy Quest comic
It's a funny idea, because of how surreal the thing could get. Is it going to be behind the scenes or actually within film-within-a-film universe? So many possibiltiies.

2 Star Trek: Planet of the Apes crossover comic
Kirk vs Dr. Zaius. Epic fight scene that looks like its from West Coast USA!

1 Official Zyuranger DVDs in the US.
I've said all I needed to say about it here. https://tokueasternheroes.wordpress.com/2014/07/26/big-news-for-power-rangers-i-mean-super-sentai-fans/

Review: Escape (1970), Conquest (1971) and Battle (1973) from the Planet of the Apes

My brother who absolutely thought Beneath was a disaster thanks to the special effects really enjoyed the philosophical elements of Escape from the Planet of the Apes. Do you eliminate a perfect good sentient being even knowing possibly that he can ruin the society of the Planet of the Apes?
It also murs the original's continuity a bit like the recent X Men films but with good reason.
Again like Planet there are no bad guys except maybe in this case the humans who imprison apes.
Also, let's get ape drunk!

"I said louder!"
"Lousy human bastards"
Conquest was a tale of religious and racial rebellion, freedom, fate.
The ethics used when using a truth telling machine is interesting.
Going totalitarian over the use of pets is a humorous premise but interesting enough and even has a bit of a Star Wars-like inspiration involved. The violence was a bit low key for its time, but there wasn't much in the US to begin with.
Was it ignorant to compare apes to African American civil rights leaders?
No. They were equals even superiors.

Battle had some nice set design but was a bittersweet end to the franchise with a bittersweet ending. The script felt very rushed not enjoyable and noticeably a lot of people didn't like this film.

4 The Iron Giant: A classic regarding the cold war.

1 The Empire Strikes Back: I feel cold.

Review: Planet of the Apes (1968) and Beneath (1969)

Planet of the Apes:
  • I find Taylor to be quite an interesting character. He's played by the awesome voice of Charlton Heston, and seems not to mind when finding out the female astronaut is dead due to the 18 year time leap. He then finds Nova attractive despite her being part of a group that completely screwed up their supplies.
  • The build up to the lines, "take your paws off me you damn dirty ape," is great.
  • The ending is memorable, due to fears of the cold war.
It's a fine example of screenwriting, acting and directing. Well worth an Academy Award for something.
10/10

Beneath the Planet of the Apes:
There's definitely big problems with this film that made people forget the rest of the series.
  • They write off Taylor before doing it permanently. Charlton Heston had an ingenious ending for this film though.
  • The mutants are quite nuclear and their special effects are a bit unpolished.
I really liked Brent, but he's definitely a step down from Taylor. Sort of like how I didn't like Godfather Part II's inclusion of characters that weren't in the first film.
The deaths in the end I really didn't see coming, although eventually you see the end coming, albeit it was suspenseful.
The mutants with nuclear bomb inspired powers also seem to be 2001 inspired, albeit no one knows for sure, who came with what idea first. The mutants love and religion based on the bomb is quite poetic and indicative of some right wing convictions.
7/10

Nothing in Tim Burton's Planet of the Apes makes sense, especially the ending

This is a really funny and scary film at the same time. The makeup plays upon people's Michael Jackson fears, and they walk rather eerily too.
Mark Wahlberg talks to animals! He talks to Transformers, so why not?!
I don't believe that the characters are real and are as fake as their makeup.
Whether because of Silver Age radiation beliefs or due to screwing up an education system, the people in this version of Apes can talk, aren't really subdued, so I have no idea what they're complaining about regarding the Apes. Why don't they run? Why don't they overthrow? It makes NO sense.
Not to mention, they have empathetic apes in this film. Maybe they're all not just warmongers. I guess the original had that issue too, but I care enough about the acting, the realism of the makeup, etc.. so that I don't get bothered by this!

Also, why did Tim Burton make this film other than for the money?
There's no goth style in it. He doesn't make any references to other media other than Planet of the Apes in the film, (and they're TERRIBLE!)
It really doesn't seem to be a product anybody enjoyed and boy did it show.

The time warp aspect of the film is completely useless. And BOY that ending. There was really no reason or hints throughout the film to imply they were on Earth and it really should've been an alien planet. How much did they spend on all those sets or CG for such an Ed Woodian ending?!

I guess some of the action was good, but I really didn't get why they went all Iron Monkey in the film.

Why Kamen Rider Gaim-Android Kikaider didn't work

When the effects didn't work, they were worst movie of all time awful.
They need to work Jiro with an acting coach. It's a tough role, and its easy to fail. They're trying to max profits, while they definitely need QA.
I dunno if the original Hakaider was like that. In this version, they just made him Scientist Samurai Hakaider and that was a little weird on the Wikipedia although sorta true. He just kept saying, "destroy, destroy" not really giving him any depth, more importantly not really giving him us any interest in a character that was popular enough to get his own television show.
Furthermore, for a show that had constant times of suffering from Kenji Mizoguchi pace on a commercial project, it seemed rather obvious that they screwed up in production somewhere as they had the crossover as the 30th episode, but right in the middle of probably the best Gaim arc in the show or connected to it.
The 30th episode of Kamen Rider Gaim, should've been about Kamen Rider Gaim. Not Kikaider. Leave that on the movie or a separate non-canon episode.
It was very awkward here, and again makes fans who aren't Transformers crazed lunatics who keep watching Michael Bay's films, no matter how low the standards are, very displeased with their product and vocal about it, hurting the show's brand marketing.

Why Kamen Rider Gaim-Android Kikaider worked

When the effects worked, they were great
Jiro had an ethical Blade Runner-ish dilemma regarding his memories and self regarding the reboot.
  • Should he be a person who can't defend himself, like a vegetable or mentally ill person in a mental institution or should he be a person who can do something for himself?
  • Should we all be people who don't suffer through diluted and biased media to discover the truth of this world?
Jiro had an interesting child-like persona, really giving him the Pinocchio origin that Shotaro Ishinomori enjoyed. That's what he would've liked.

There should be a Power Rangers movie cinematic universe

Saban has a ton of brands.
Think about it:
A Power Rangers movie one year,
A Masked Rider movie another
Followed by a Power Rangers-Masked Rider movie, following
The Alien Rangers movie
Followed by the Power Rangers ZEO movie
Followed by the Power Rangers in Space movie
A Countdown to Destruction movie,
Followed by a VR Troopers movie,
Followed by a Big Bad Beetleborgs movie
Followed by their teamup.
Followed by a Power Rangers Lost Galaxy movie
Followed by a Sabanaverse teamup.

TOO MUCH money you say?
Make it a comic book.

Too lazy to do that?
Make a machine that prints money then!

This probably won't happen. Everybody cry your tears on the nonexisting printed money that Saban could've had. Cry. Cry some more.

Steve Cardena Countdown: ZEO Episode 4: The Shooting Star

ZEO sorta bastardizes the dark footage of robotic experimentation themes that were present in Shotaro Ishinomori's Kamen Rider. The dehumanization of the enemy, or in this specific case the Ohranger's enemy is quite interesting. Then again, not having watched the Toei original, maybe they did the same thing.
Also, the use of the Zeo Ranger Battle Helmets was similar to that of

However, like the episode before with Nakia Burrise, Steve Cardenas pulls off some wonderful acting that Zeo improved on from the previous season, demonstrating a teen that is curious, frustrated and suffers from teen needs.

Reasons why Saban should use another Kamen Rider franchise in their show, AND WHY NOT?!

Crossovers
People love the Sinestro Corps, Black Lantern Corps, Avengers, X-Men etc..
CROSSOVERS

Why not?
They added Ferbus to Masked Rider
Shotaro Ishinomori started hating them for a series he didn't even do that well.
And now Saban is even worse.
They cannot produce a budget that allows for casting, editing and directing, and acting to develop good skills on screen, equalling some of the worst television series ever made!
And the ratings didn't even improve. They went from 8.0 to 1.0 over 4 years. And they didn't aggressively try and fix that unlike in their first run when every year counted.

However, they have a deal with Lionsgate.
Maybe we can have a Masked Rider movie
THAT SABAN DOESN'T TOUCH CREATIVELY!
AHHHHHHHH!

Worst failed "attempts" at bringing another Jason David Frank into the Power Rangers franchise

Tyzonne if he wasn't actually what Disney made him into
RoboKnight doesn't have a face.
TMNT Did absolutely great in the In Space crossover. Everybody loves mentioning that teamup nobody how flawed the show was.
Dex. They really did try. He battles face to face with Tommy and Rocky in A Friend in Need
Denayus. Imagine it. A teamup between Denayus, the Shadowborg, Tyler Steele and the Green Ranger? Who can stop them. Never happened of course.

Eric Myers/Dan Southworth
An adaptation of Mirai Sentai Timeranger's Naoto/TimeFire, Eric Myers was a cool antihero-ish personality that discriminated against good guy Mutants, good guys coming from rich backgrounds.
He was also nominated for the role of Adam Park in Mighty Morphin Power Rangers. Dan Southworth's also a stunt double for I believe Chad Lee in Lightspeed Rescue, turned down for the role after playing it too dark, waiting the next year for him to portray Eric Myers.
Taylor Eardhart/Alyson Kiperman
Also don't forget that she hooked up with Tommy!

Cam He was the most serious one compared to the teenage goofs of Power Rangers Ninja Storm. He is A Green Ranger after all.

Leanbow/Koragg a baddie turned Red Ranger II. Sure, he was cooler as the baddie, but oh well. Still a kickass costume.
Dragonzord/Saba/Falconzord
Sam Collins/Matthew Lawrence
Kilo Khan/Tim Curry
The Steeles. What a terrible finale. They could not get Brad Hawkins to stay, after finally getting Austin St. John to rejoin. Grimlord
Dillon/Daniel Ewing
Sky/Chris Violette I really think he should've been the Tommy after all he went through that series: his friend's betrayal, his dad's death. I felt for him. It was one of the most important character arcs in Power Rangers history.

Time Force is not the most realistic Police Force. Granted, there is signs of corruption in the Timeranger footage with  being the bad guy.

Super 8: 3 Pros and 3 Cons

  1. Visual Effects: The train crash is so memorable. The effects are top quality and convincing. Nothing cartoon like.
  2. Acting: JJ Abrams really pulls off with directing actors with kids way better than his blockbuster fluff. Elle Fanning and Joel Courtney become stars in a film where kids are weak, but make a difference in a world run by immoral parents and troubling government.
  3. Homage to Spielberg: Little kid and an alien. Imaginary child theme. Evil Kubrickian government. The contrast between imaginary sci fi and real sci fi.

  1. Annoying kids
  2. Why did I have to see a kid vomit?
  3. An alien who we in the end do not really understand or care about. He basically made E.T. with a shitty unmemorable E.T. Maybe I am misinterpreting the invisible child theme.

Metal Heroes Sharivan Episode 3: Pedophilia

Summary:
Sharivan meets a little girl named Kumiko at a greenhouse. He goes to her house to eat ham and eggs before giving her what is essentially Jimmy Olsen's Superman watch for help whenever she needs it. Sharivan saves her father who she never sees because of his "work," which is him being forced to work with Madou to fire a missile at Sharivan's spaceship the Grand Birth. Kumiko is gone. Luckily she has the "call Sharivan" device that Den Iga forgot.

The surface narrative from my first experience watching the episode:
Madou'd have a more devious plan if the Uchu Keiji Sharivan's writing weren't written so haphazardly. I personally did not like the surface narrative of A Clockwork Orange a lot, and this episode seems to suffer from the same sort of odd narrative choices that they made on a supposed kids show. They really don't like to do surface level exposition, so don't let them. Let them just do fighting scenes.

Sharivan shoots a Demon's own machine guns against them, before morphing into Sharivan in a really cool morphing transition. Some of the effects for fighting in the episode were still off, but an improvement, so easily forgivable. There's a humorous clip of the Demonster flipping before being unable to get up that is cut.

The scene where Kumiko is dragged out of the house by Madou's power is hella friggin crazy too. Probably looks too fake if you think about it too much. Don't! Enjoy!

Beyond the surface narrative aka the insanity of PRPHD:
I'm probably reading too much into this series, but it was essentially my experience watching "Alpha's Magical Christmas" after watching "Barney's Magical Christmas," where I had lost my sanity while watching the episode, since I tend to watch deep multi-layered films such as Inception, Pulp Fiction and other auteurish works. But my gosh, the first five minutes were a bit difficult to get through. Sort of why The Shining probably got the Golden Raspberry Award for 1980.
But maybe it has to do with the Rob Ager theories regarding the Shining. Stanley Kubrick films are very rewarding regarding the amount of depth. They can be found here, albeit IT IS A LOT MORE REWARDING DISCOVERYING THE THEORIES YOURSELF. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED.

Sharivan's pedophilic encounter with Kumiko:
There is this creepy music being played in the greenhouse, where lots of flowers, Shakespearean symbols of female fertility are present. Then there is the sound of crying. Sharivan asks the little girl, Kumiko inside the greenhouse if she had been talking to flowers. Also, to note are the trees and plants inside Stanley Ullman's office in the Colorado Hotel.
After the opening, Sharivan asks the girl where her parents are. He then enters the house without it being camp.
The girl then willingly invites Sharivan to make ham and eggs for him.
After eating Kumiko's ham and eggs, he responds at how good of a wife she would be some day.
Sharivan then puts the tracker up the doll's skirt. It's a bear, like in the Shining.

Dreams:
As mentioned by Youtube celebrity movie interpreter, Rob Ager, a slight detail in Stanley Kubrick films are the mention of dreams as well as Stanley Kubrick's ability to put clues in on what happened to something/someone after the event already had happened.
Kumiko has a dream of a monster attacking her father. Was her encounter with Sharivan also a nightmare as well? Perhaps all of that was a dream from King Psycho's hallucinations.

The faked moon landings?
Her father is revealed to be kidnapped by Madou by making a rocket to shoot at Space Sheriff Sharivan's ship, Grand Birth. Also, in the Shining book, the name of the room that Danny becomes traumatized in is in Room 217, instead of 237. There is other evidence as well in the film that is referenced in the Rob Ager's Collative Learning website in case you wanted to learn. WARNING: it is a lot more interesting to observe by yourself than seeing it on Ager's website, so I highly recommend multiple viewings of the Shining prior to giving up and looking on Ager's site!
There were many theories as to whether Stanley Kubrick had made faked moon landing footage on the moon during the creation of 2001: A Space Odyssey. One ponders if the writer or director noticed these theories as well. Not too far away as this series was made in the early 1980s and 2001 was made in the later 1960s.

Is it a hallucination or a demon?
One of the mysteries of the Shining was whether there really was a Delbert Grady or not as well as whether Jack Torrence went crazy or he was actually seeing ghosts or both.
This episode has a similar mystery: Is it Sharivan that has the Shining or is it King Psycho?
Sharivan has a device that allows him to communicate to Kumiko by clicking on a button.
However, King Psycho also has a similar power, by communicating to visions to not only Sharivan, the Demonsters and Kumiko, but the audience as well. He could be seen as a sort of monolithic figure from 2001: A Space Odyssey, except with more devious ideas.
I could be wrong but the episode definitely has that confusing plot that needs to be watched multiple times to be understood feeling. Hopefully, we will get back to it another day.

Ameritoku that could've been the next Green Ranger/Tommy Oliver: Part 1

Jason David Frank is a legend in American Tokusatsu. He was the member of Power Rangers that was the the first, and more importantly, was the most popular and he had his own arc. The line for his table is endless at conventions.

So in order to come up with other "legendary" actors that can be as popular as Tommy, I have decided to compose a list of popular and/or influential characters in American tokusatsu history.

  • Jason Lee Scott/Austin St. John/Jason Geiger
The Red Senshi was the symbol of the main character of Super Sentai, whereas the Red Ranger is the symbol of leader of Mighty Morphin Power Rangers. Jason Lee Scott's helmet face was on all the merchandise.
People recognize him. He was the one who stopped Tommy from being evil. He was the one who teamed up with Tommy against many evil situations. He was the one who stood in for Tommy when he was powered down or out. He was the one who intially fought Goldar and Lord Zedd. He gains the power of the Green Ranger after Tommy loses his powers. He's also the Sixth Ranger after him in Power Rangers: Zeo, so why not him?
  • All the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers
They were the first cast. They were legends. They were friends in real life. They were friends in the show. Few Power Rangers cast had the same chemistry as them. I recall that story of how Austin St. John and crew went to Universal Studios and how crowded the line was to see them. They were big! Have them show up throughout series. Heck, Bulk and Skull showed up without the original Rangers. Even in Samurai.
  • Dragonzord, Saba and White Tiger
Have Tommy's zords come back, but not him. You don't have to pay him and while still having elements of him around.
  • Katherine Hillard/Catherine Sutherland
She's basically the female Tommy Oliver, evil Ranger sent to destroy someone who she eventually replaces. She falls in love with her male counterpart. She brought a sense of real teenage romance to the Power Rangers series as the cast grew in Power Rangers: Zeo.
Only problem is the Kim-Tom fans...
  • Sam Collins, Superhuman Samurai Cyber Squad
Matthew Lawrence was one of the most hyped stars in the 90s. His entire family was. And there he was on a Saved by the Bell-ish show with Japanese tokusatsu footage. It was syndicated. It had faster . The story quality could've been better, but heck. I did not notice.
  • KiloKhan, Tim Curry
I could gloat about how Tim Curry's the best talent ever. I could.
  • The Steeles, VR Troopers
I love Defending Dark Heart. Love it. I don't care if it's not original footage. I don't care if Metalder and Spielban were a better series. The crew did a great job with that episode. For me, it was what many people's Green With Evil was for them. I mark out at how cheesy it was for Ryan Steele to be teaming up with his younger self and his father against Skugs in Trooper in Time. It would've been awesome to have him in Power Rangers: ZEO

Most popular Toei franchises

Toei did a great job establishing not only annual teams, but possibly life teams with tendy series such as:
  • Kamen Rider: From henshins to Rider Kicks to BatMan, like Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, a key figure in Tokusatsu.
  • Hakaider: One of the most memorable turns in Tokusatsu history.

Every comical Toku should learn from Kamen Rider Fourze

I do not like most toku nowadays. Now some of you fans may go, "Then don't watch it. It's not for you. Don't ruin it for us."
But what can I say. Some people want video games to be art? I want Toku to be art: a certain standard, memorable.

I cringe every time I see that scene where Gekired hits himself in the face with nunchaku and ponder, "This is the main character of the series? What a low bar..."

Sorta like how Power Rangers RPM did, Kamen Rider Fourze takes risks wisely:
This show is a little stupid, but it does not think the audience is that stupid.
Gentaro is a fighter, and a lover not a thinker.
Kengo is a thinker, too traumatized to be a lover and forced to not be a fighter. He breaks a girl's heart in the first episode without a know reason. There is a preview of it in the first episode to get us interested in the second episode: Good writing and marketing!
Yuki fixes the quarrels between them.
The rest of them form a Scooby Gang.
Every character is unique and has a flaw that the other character compliments with. It is very feng shui and brings harmony to the group.

Furthermore...

Everybody is stupid on this show:
A little explanation of franchises nowadays:
Most things nowadays have terrible screenplays, because make the villain seem really smart, whereas the heroes were dumb to begin with, lowering the standard of the villain and the screenplay.
In Star Trek: Kirk is dumb, John Harrison is dumb, superhuman but friggin dumb and is only accredited as smart because he is given the name Khan. Why 72 torpedoes? Why let the Ms. RoboCop onto the ship for no reason or explanation? Why let Scotty off the ship when he did everything right? How many times did he let Kirk live, despite really having nothing against Kirk? Nothing made sense in that show for either side.
In the Marvel Cinematic Universe, no one could predict what Loki did, because he did not have a plan:
I said it: Loki and the entire Thor franchise sucks.
Instead of regurgitating what other people said I will link you to my favorite article regarding the subject: http://kristenstewartwantsit.wordpress.com/2011/05/09/thor-sucked-the-movie-review/
Everything is made up for a bad production thanks to good marketing strategies. The Marvel and Star Trek brand are topical and exciting now, so pretty much no matter what happens everybody will watch them.

Kamen Rider Fourze counters that by making everybody dumb:
Why the heck did the bad guy put his secret base in a private school that is not exactly magicially hidden like Hogwarts is, where people can fight back against the Zodiarts? What was his plan on conquering the school that he already owns and people are forced to go to? You never saw Hitler invade Germany or Genghis Khan invade Mongolia!
Why is it a rule that nerds have to sit with nerds? How realistic is that? Is not everybody a nerd now? What about that guy from episode 2? Aren't there adults watching Tokusatsu now in Japan?
The answer to that is this: It is not a realistic series, yet it does tropes, not stereotypes. Simple effective that kids can understand, hopefully parents can correct.
In the second episode, someone goes Zodiart to play American football. American football! He wants a freaking concussion!
Just because the Kengo's father died, does not mean Kengo would be a good astronaut, especially at a high schooler's age! (What do they teach at that school anyway?)

Shows do not have to follow logic. Show have to follow a logic.
Twin Peaks follows dream logic. Stanley Kubrick follows whatever the heck he wants to follow. That's what makes them auteurs.
More on this in a future article.

Good Lazy Ideas For Power Rangers Movies That Were Never Used

  1. Countdown to Destruction with all the original Mighty Morphin cast members
  2. The Green Ranger Saga (Saban recently did not want to hire Tommy to do a movie. Was this the idea?)
  3. Lightspeed Rescue Episode 8: What happened to that robber? Did he get sentenced to life or was he pardoned? It was one of the darkest tales, having no crime forgiveness, even if you saved people's lives. that could be told in a Power Rangers setting.
  4. Power Rangers SPD, "Endings" It's only 2025. You're telling me an "Alternate Reality" Jason Lee Scott can't show up? Have him not morph and dub over him. It'll make its own money.
  5. Masked Rider Decade vs Power Rangers Samurai. No matter how terrible teamups are, fans eat them up. Why not give fans this epic teamup?
  6. Power Rangers Mystic Force vs SPD: Just use the original story sans the family stuff. It was lots of fun.
  7. Lightspeed Rescue vs Lost Galaxy. Bring back Amy Miller. Use the damn stock footage properly and "adapt" the movie into a feature.
  8. The Pink Ranger Saga: People cried when Kim left Tommy, so there must have been something Saban did right with that romance there. Give her a proper send off! With a pay bonus!
  9. Power Rangers Ninja Storm vs Power Rangers Wild Force: Just use the same footage and plot. Saban vs Disney. Ninjas vs Animals. A comedy masterpiece. Everybody will enjoy!
  10. Adventurers/Boukenger vs Operation Overdrive: Have them write off the iMack Rangers and use characters from the original stock footage to create new better Rangers than what the US ended up getting. Saban basically did that with Shinkenger. Do it with Overdrive and you'll have a better series!

The Beginning of Kamen Rider Gaim is more Fast more Furious than Fight Club

I sort of understand what they were going for in the beginning of Gaim.
Japanese culture is very hierarchical. Big on corporations and becoming rich and powerful, much like America. Japanese students fight very hard to get into colleges, much like most of Eastern culture, while in Western Culture, the dumb are very dumb so it is a cake walk for someone with a decent average to get to a decent college.
You have to be the smartest, fastest, most innovative, etc..
You have to be the best engineer, athlete, competitor, etc..

That gets me to my point.
I do not know about the first two Fast and the Furiouses, but I hated Tokyo Drift. Hated it. The main character gets everyone killed, on purpose, for no reason, just because he likes driving?
I'm 27.
Maybe if I was 14 again that would make sense to me, but it just sounds ridiculous to me now.
Tokyo Drift was written at such a stupidly written plot, I do not want to discuss it.
And while, Gaim is not quite on that level, you still have:
Micchy still not backing down from a fight just because Kouta and/or Mai are looking,
Kouta screws up all his jobs with the power of his Warring Lock,
Gaim just has to fight, because their dance stage is just that important to them.

I dunno. Maybe the subs are wrong, but it just seemed to be so badly written, it sort of embarrasses fans who enjoy the genre.

You see? It just gets on that level of ridiculous machismo that probably got out of enjoying Go-onger, because it looked like Pokemon (but did not have that many episodes!) mentality.

I hear episode 11 it gets better and that Rider that scared the crap out of Kouta seemed pretty cool, but gosh. If you don't believe me, fine. I am probably going into this Rider with the wrong mentality and need a reset.
Happy New Year.
