Power Rangers Time Force 15 Years Later Episode 17, "The Legend of the Clock Tower" review

I like how they use Katie as this tough lady in a time where people were old fashioned.
I also wonder the ties this colonial person had with Frax in the future as they look quite similar.
I'm not exactly sure how Katie affecting time worked, but seemed fairly interesting.

Power Rangers Time Force Episode 13 "Quantum Quest" 15 Years Later

Dr. Hammond of Jurassic Park and an homage to Indiana Jones appears in the episode.

Good guy is free.

Wes and Eric's chemistry and friends and rivals although interesting just isn't as good as Timeranger. They seem quite obviously acting opposed to immersing me into the characters.

Eric looks for the Quantum Rangers powers, opposed to helping Jen. Takes the power selfishly.

I wonder if Jen would've done this vs Wes, etc..

No one really gets hurt despite all these monster blades.

There's some adaptation decay with the scenes.

Also, Eric never really made the weapon pose his.

Ransik's usage is very little and that was a good choice.

The Hammond character I would've liked used more especially since in the last episode they actually do go back in time.

Power Rangers Time Force Episode 12 "Worlds Apart" 15 Years Later

He's poor, but he's a bad guy.
He's rich, but he's a good guy.
Good change of pace for once.

Also, he gains the trust of his dad, which something Wes might dislike. Does he although he say he doesn't? Why does Wes even care? There's no evidence that Mr. Collins is a good person otherwise.

They do a good guy of building such an evil guy to be a Ranger, in a way that trumps Green Ranger.

They set up real weapons.

They set up Eric being under someone else.

Wes also reveals his identity. Something that was taboo under the Zordon era.

Collins has a moment with his son. Collins is probably treated less empathetically than his Timeranger counterpart. Before this moment at least.

Power Rangers Time Force 15 Years Later Episode 8 "Jen's Revenge"

Wes and Jen are shipped for some odd reason.

Jen has an acid flashback of Alex for some odd reason.

I really like the character of the monster of the week. Although, the colors sorta don't make sense, he's sort of a bozoku in US form especially with the mohawk and chaingun, I enjoy that he has a thing for Nadira.

Also, why is this the only Jen v Ransik episode?

Later, it's revealed Alex is back anyway.

"But it's what Alex would do?"
How does Wes know what would Alex do?

Jen liking Wes just the way he is works.

Power Rangers Time Force 15 Years Later Episode 7, "Short Circuited"

Trip cheats at Poker, an illegal activity in some states in real life to being with. Not sure about in Power Rangers United States. Then for some odd reason Trip isn't allowed to use his gem head power, for some odd reason.
CUZ Lucas is a sore loser at Poker. Or something.

Trip plays a naive character very well.

Nadira is played well as a manipulative bad guy. We feel for her in the beginning but it's because she tricks not only Trip, but the audience as well.

Circuit is captured.

Darkly enough, Circuit actually a bit injured with all his wires out.

Power Rangers Time Force 15 Years Later Episode 31 "Undercover Rangers"

A bit of a dumb PR-ish episode.
Wes and Jen are shipped in an episode with some wacky get rich quick gain weight scam.

Power Rangers Time Force Episode 9 "The Time Shadow" 15 Years Later

The Mutant baddies are gang-like and referred to as a gang, opposed to the cops of both Time Force and the Biotech company. It adds to some of the Verehoeven RoboCop elements that made it to the final product. Themes of corporations and powers out of control are present. However, as I watch later episodes it sorta gets diluted with children's show comedy. It's sort of a weird and not as fluid contrast, but does give the show its identity. I'll get to why that happened in the end of the review.
Weapons are a key aspect of the show for both Biotech and Ransik.
Ransik defeats a robot much to the dismay of Frax. Ransik uses robots as other parasitic being have used other beings.
Frax destroys humans to build up destroying Ransik. He destroys a tank in the process.

Rest of it is standard Power Rangers stuff.

Hyakujuu Sentai Gaoranger Episode 4 Mandarin Dub Review

They're in a Japanese shrine.
Japanese shrine bell org.
Blue weak and tombs.
That's about it. There's probably something about the actual use of shrines or something, but I sorta saw it as a filler episode.

Hyakujuu Sentai Gaoranger Episode 3 Mandarin Dub review

Even though this is the Mandarin dub, it seemed a lot more obvious than in Wild Force, the idea of a camera stealing ones soul.
Also Mandilok is introduced to bring out the idea of the eye.

GaoRed seems more than a jock than I recall.
I sorta see him as a Black Condor/Bouken Black actually.
Rivalry with the Red Senshi and second in command of the baddies. Antiheroish. Doesn't get along.

Also, because of Gaoranger vs Super Sentai, I always associated the Gaoranger song with Anniversary shows.

They also use CGI for the camera tentacle effect. It's used briefly so you don't notice the fakeness.

Lion King.

White Tiger

Black Bison.

Also, I love the Gaoranger team finisher. It was original and not replicated, compared to the unnecessary uses of a Pirate Ship Cannon in Gokaiger, and just so many unnecessary cannon uses which don't get real stories at times.

Power Rangers Time Force 15 Years Later Episode 26, "Time Force Traitor" review

There's not a lot of depth to the fact that Steelix cutting a deal with Ransik but it works. We can assume that money is a dangerous power, and that's been reinforced through the show as with Nadira's affinity for it, and Collins Sr's deals with weapons, security paramilitaries and bio weapons research.

The use of a toy box for Steelix to show his hologram was interesting. It's toy-like but has an adult detailed dark Hellraiser-ish design.

The use of the term mutants was sorta racist by Jen, especially after Trip already saved one, but was probably due to Screen Actor's Guild/lack of ability to retake the scene.

There's also a lot of Jen somewhat nudity, with her placing her Power Ranger toy gun on her skirt as if that would hold in in addition to showing her boxers a lot.

Side note, since Pokemon Sun and Moon was big, her partner's name was Steelix oddly enough 15 years later.

I sorta think it'd be impossible in 2001, but I think it would've been interesting if Jen's former cop partner was Time Force Pink Fire in the "Time Force Traitor" episode.
Also, as much as people complain about US suits' Steelix was just sorta awful all around. Even Sledge worthy. I actually have complaints about a lot of the Japanese suits post Gaoranger actually.

Power Rangers Time Force 15 Years Later Episode 23, "Full Exposure" review

Katie's an underrated character and her actress is underrated. There's a little bit of overdrama with Katie not wanting to have her identity exposed. On the other hand, I just as an adult like how I didn't like her character's accessibility to audiences several years earlier. There's no cheese behind her character, and her actress keeps the character consistent throughout.
Is it a better character than Damon from Time Yellow? Probably not. but the amount of praise or luck due to the restraint the character is used is well done.

The whole Daily Planet storyline of not wanting a superhero's identity exposed is interesting. I would've liked an obvious reason especially in a time show, of time inconsistencies and possibly even have the photographer sent to Time Force jail as a result of violating rules. The drama of Katie not wanting to do that seems really interesting.

The Guest of the Week is very good. They have a lot of not wanting to do it yet he does it, albeit the music is a big factor in that as well.
The moment when they lose their powers built up to showing their identity was really good.
The actors for the newspaper were really good. Sorta reminds me of Kaitlin Starr of VR Troopers. I sorta wish there was more at the newspaper than Nick at Time though.

Also, where's Eric been the last few episodes?

Power Rangers Time Force 15 Years Later Episode 21, "Lovestruck Rangers" review

Jen is shipped with her lover's great x 20 grandfather this episode.

It's accessible whether I like it to be or not.

Jen falling for Wes is rushed in this series. Also, Wes is so underdeveloped I sorta don't care who he likes.
Then again media is visual. They look a like so she's attracted to him in a sort of narcissism for someone else situation.

Well, the Snake bracelet seems fairly effective.

Worth Keeter directed, hence the MMPR cheese. If you like the comedy of the episode, kudos to you.

Power Rangers Time Force 15 Years Later Episode 6, "A Parting of Ways" review

Jen calls Wes a great Red Ranger. There's some humor. Wes seems comfortable. Jen's somewhat in character, somewhat not.

Mr. Collins states that one day Wes will take over Biolab. There's some father son moments here.

Kids get captured on a bus.

YTF should Mr. Collins pay the ransom. You have the police, Time Force can manipulate time, Wes can't sign a check? Wtf is Ransik going to do with 2000s money? Especially after what Bush did to the economy? Why don't they just short sell Bear Sterns?

Then again, Collins does set up the Silver Guardians later anyway, so shows people he can do that kind of stuff.

Baseball bad guy is the monster of the week.

Also, they didn't sign the check?
Also, why would these guys pay in a check? What if the check bounces?

Also, the bad guy of the episode just showed why you shouldn't have paid them in the first place, so Wes looks like a fool.

Where is the money in the children's orphanage going? How many will it feed? Did Wes ever go to college? Maybe Jen was right about him being given everything.

Power Rangers Time Force 15 Years Later Episode 14-15, "Clash for Control, Part 1 and 2"

The Hammond character I would've liked used more especially since in the last episode they actually do go back in time.

I like the Time Computer Trip uses

I'm also wondering if there were any union issues, reasonings for not bringing back Jason David Frank and Austin St. John for this episode. probably just Saban being Saban.

Eric goes after Wes.

Also, in retrospect, I don't like them shipping Wes and Jen, there's so little time with the two of them together, that although the actors pulled it off later, it seemed like it wasn't well built up.

Mr. Collins uses Wes to get to Eric. Collins wants Megazords.

Q-Rex time limit.

Eric discusses Wes being jealous of Eric being the Quantum Ranger. It's a bit dark in that it's a lie that isn't true. But it would've been darker if that was true and Wes portrayed that.
Eric lead the Time Force Rangers.
Mr. Collins meets the Time Force Rangers. He's manipulating them.
How would Wes know that they wouldn't join Collins? Wes knows him so well.

Spoiled rich kid talk is annoying and stereotypical.

However, the cheesiness of the fight works.

The monster is campy.
That's what's teamworks' about.

Jason Faunt saying "yea, sure does," although lacking energy, actually made it seem more convincing.

I see some Abarekiller mech design in the Q-Rex Megazord. There's some cool stuff about the zord, that you don't witness unless you see the show unlike the Zyuranger mechs which look cool with no knowledge of the show.

Mr. Collins in the end takes control of Eric, and Eric completely immerses himself in that decision.

Is it really in Jen's character to make a joining with Mr. Collins character?

Power Rangers Time Force Episode 11 "Uniquely Trip" 15 Years Later

I like how they introduce him, although late as a nice alien/mutant despite Ransik being a mutant. Heck, Ransik's a bit cartoonily evil in this season, to the point, where he has no real allies. Although, that was the enjoyable part of his character. This does hurt the message of him fighting for mutants though.

Trip makes some friends with some kids.

They fight an energy draining monster later.

I also don't know what to think of them allowing kids in on the stunts.

Them wearing Trip's hair was too fourth wall breaking.

How Power Rangers Time Force relates to the Western World 15 years later

The show is about technology and the horrors of it.
The ability to engineer time travel and create.
Racism as illustrated from mutants.
A Les Miserables-like lack of sympathy for criminals.
Genetics and genetic engineering.
Pharmaceuticals.
Being replaced by robots and being afraid of it. Why not just let it be?
Big corporations inherited by rich kids.
Corporations that can hire RoboCop OCP like armies and manufacture weapons, all for money.

Jen Scotts can be interpreted in two fashions.
For feminists, she is a woman who is capable, suffers great loss, and shows great strength.
She loses a man he loves
She has multiple friends who can be mutants: Trip, with a gem on his head and natural green hair, Katie with super strength and possibly even Lucas, who can drive every possible vehicle.

For anti-feminists, she is a bit of an idiot, who is a power authority. She loves a man basically because he looks like the man she used to love, yet both men are completely different. She also originally accussed the man of being a rich guy who never did anything, despite the fact that she's from the future. She could've recalled hearing of a rich guy like this knowing martial arts and admiring him for. She also could've just researched it, having future technology. NOPE.

There may even be a reasoning behind why they do jobs for money, when Wes has all the money he wants.
However, she does make the good point that he doesn't even have a position in his dad's company, so what the heck did he do exactly?

Katie is strong yet isn't treated differently for it. She's embraced, even if she is the one doing the strong embracing.

One of the good guys is a racist.
One of the bad guys wants revenge for a hate crime from his act of love, an act or robots.

Kamen Rider Black RX's ending

I was really oftput by intro of R/X, as it really didn't seem to fit Minami Kotaro's character.

Then again a comical Minami Kotaro gave the actor a lot more acting to do. He wasn't quite the it's Golgom's fault trope, but he didn't really do much in the show.

So I skip to the ending and am pleasantly surprised.

I don't even know if Amazon is canon to his actual character, but at least it's more of the idea of Amazon than the actual canon of the character, something Decade fans have forgotten.

So anyway, Jak is defeated after being stabbed in the eye, despite R/X stating he was manipulated by Crisis Emperor.
The Crisis Emperor in the end attempts to enlist R/X as a member of Crisis to prevent a loss of Earth. M denies this after Jak's defeat and then attempts to kill R/X only for Crisis Emperor to stop her, if you know what I mean. Then R/X meets D, who reveals that Demon World was actually a duplicate Earth suffering from the Earth's pollution. Later the Crisis Emperor, who states that even if Crisis is defeated, they will reemerge and fights R/X, who states that it is Crisis' corruption

So the ending is actually very sad for multiple reasons and interpretations.
1) it's not revealed whether Crisis comes back or not.
2) it is the end of the Shotaro Ishinomori era of Kamen Rider, which who knew was going to happen then.
3) This gets adapted into Saban's Masked Rider.
4) Pollution from Earth destroys Demon World because R/X defeats Crisis Emperor. What happens to Earth then?

Kikaider live action reboot 2010s review

Overall, it was a decent blockbuster. The plot was so heavily based on the original though, that it fell in comparison, but the production values were really good a la The First.

Garo Makai No Hana episode 1 review

I don't quite understand Garo, being from the US, but there are a lot of cool visuals.
It's like a silent film, black and white, little chit chat.

The costumes and relic designs are meant to be watched to unearth more about the show.

The blade to the statue was interesting and quite Eastern.

I dunno what I think of the talking ring.

The fish eater effect was very good, both the beast-like devouring of it and the growing of the fish.

The dude also has a bit of Parasyte involved.

It's also a bit ironic that a human in human clothes can be more convincingly shown as a fish demon that someone with makeup and prosthetics. A bit of youkai must be a factor.

The ending Gold Garo Knight classic form vs the fish demon has really good costume design in addition to special effects that tell an intricate story on their own.

It's a good James Bond/Indiana Jones intro to the show, introducing the Horrors without using dialogue as seen in the next episode.

Power Rangers Time Force Episode 5 review 15 years later, "The Blue Streak"

Episode 5 Lucas drives. The way the actor plays the character is pretty notable for being so one off. They don't even play it off as if he were a good driver because he was a mutant and probably could've had a copy of the driving mutant later on in the series. Jen has a line in the earlier episode about how he can "drive everything." Ignoring a bad sexual innuendo joke, I like how they seemed to play off that a bit instead of making him just a generic car driver like Time Blue or Ronnie Robinson.
I could definitely picture a Disney show where they add budget so that there's a ton of mutants in every shot in the show.

Power Rangers Time Force 15 Years Later Episode 3 review

Why did she assume Wes never fought for anyone?

Bluto popsicle.

Some futuristic thinking.

The acting came off very forced.

The time being seems scary.

Power Rangers Time Force Episode 4 review, "Ransik Lives"

Nadira is rich too.

Frax.

Television.

Jobs

Clock tower.

Mutant explanation.

The tie in to Wild Force.

Time Force DNA animation ironic.

Power Rangers Mystic Force Finale 10 Years Later, "Mystic Fate" Part 2

I would've liked to have seen a Master Nick vs the Master.
Fire Heart vs Black Lance was cool.
I also don't get why using Eastern staves from a biker Martial Arts. They don't even play it off as quirky.

Daggeron and Madison adaptation decay is here.

The Master rotating the Earth Superman: The Movie will upset some.
I think the transitions on Earth were too quick.

Also, by this time, Power Rangers knew there was an Anniversary coming. A cameo by Mighty Morphin to save Rita would've been big. The ratings for OO although later would've been big anyway.

Madison saves the day, and I think even having her save the day in the end would've been cool tying her into the Power Rangers Mystic Force and Nick storyline quite well.
Red Ranger calls it quits. How exactly would him quitting help him out or anything? He sorta has no choice with this end of the world thing going.
Wtf she mean Nick held them together though? He's a loner not a leader.

Clare not seen becomes a full sorceress thanks to Mystic Mother. Rita Clare would be cool.
Itassis reviving is about as Deus Ex as somehow defeating the Master, although they don't make it clear what his powers are in the US.
Leelee. Wtf? lol.

I don't know if I like the idea of Necrolai having a human appearance.

There's a bit of a Countdown to Destruction in the end, even if I don't believe in it.

"I want you to come back for me."
The Nick blanket.

Nick rides off on bikes with his families.
Is it that ending we wanted?
With Madison and the others would be better.

Power Rangers Mystic Force Finale 10 Years Later, "Mystic Fate" Part 1

The beginning is filled with holes.
Why is Nick not ready?
So Necrolai is a good guy, because she thinks for no reason that humans deserve to die, but not her daughter, despite her daughter being a human. It's not dark, just very flawed and illogical. No wonder there are so many Trump supporting Power Ranger fans.
How does Leelee exist anyway? Male father? Human father? How old is that father?

Itassis says they'll be spared.
Sculpin won't spare her though.

So they tell the Rangers to accept their fate.
Are you fucking dumb or something? Why would the Rangers just do that?
Why would they stop fighting and accept their fate? Even though this is magic based, no one would do that.

Itassis agrees that she doesn't make her own decision. This bring about a conversation about biological reasons of not knowing this even if it's magic related. Some Illuminati stuff would be interesting as well. Possibly attempted but lost in editing. Marchand worked with Lynn and we have a lot of brainwashing storylines in Power Rangers.

Courage is a weapon for some odd reason ripping off Mahou Sentai Magiranger.
Itassis becomes defeated.

They don't think for themselves.

Boom is a racist elf.

Well Nick?

I would've liked a Master version of Koragg or Nick's Mystic Force form. That would sell a lot at Comic Con.

For some odd reason we're supposed to care about Phineas at Rockporium despite the fact that there's all this drama in this climatic ending of the show- really sad since I like Kelson Henderson humor.

Ice Prince is injured.

Mystic Mother is here.

I don't get why Udonna fights with Martial Arts vs Sculpin. It's sorta like a parody of understanding of Power Rangers and forgets what made the Mystic Force season theme so unique.

Sculpin and Black Lance takes Udonna.
I don't know if Nick should treat Udonna as his mom, but his line delivery was good.

How Power Rangers affects the 2016 US Presidential and any election

Haim Saban is known as two things: the owner of the Power Rangers and a political influencer.
He has made donations to the Democratic Party of the United States, who mainly has pro-Israel influences, which mainly of which has been known for controversially affecting the Middle East region, destabilizing it, leading to terrorists.
He has backed Hillary Clinton who the New York Times and wikileaks is not citing possible money that came from the backers of ISIS.

He sold Power Rangers in the early 2000s. He used the money to buy Univision, a Hispanic network of television stations. Univision has been very in the face when it comes to the US Presidential Election, and has gained a lot of money and revenue from the big media craze when it comes to Trump vs Clinton, as have many other US cable news stations.
A month ago, Gawker removed 6 posts on controversies it posted. There were also claims that Gawker had staged some Trump events.
Univision purchased these Gawker sites. I'm unsure of which sites were purchased, but I believe Gawker owned popular sites such as iO9, Kotaku and Jezebel.
US news stations covering this news has even affected the ratings of sports stations.
This is America US sports is affected by this you know this is big.

Haim Saban backs the US political system. Saban is backed by viewers for Power Rangers, and Univision and Gawker.
Realize this when you view.

If you don't believe anything else, this'll more than likely at least affect acting and media production unions.

"Power Rangers Dino Super Charge" Worgworld review

You've ruined zombies Saban. You've ruined it.

They film in an actual New Zealand alley.
Zombie costumes.
Headsets as if in a zombie shooting video game.
Dark Energem fight, although really out of place.

CON WORG
He's your friend. He's a dummy.
Does he look animate to you?
Awful non-academic use of slapstick.
Why would a caveman be able to use technology?
Also, the fight costumes in the US footage look very worn.
This was VR Troopers Season 2 bad of production quality. It really looks like they're out of budget despite spending money on a hundred of extras and their makeup.

Power Rangers Dino Super Charge, "Freaky Frightday" review

So the beginning has Snide captured by King Emperor Argamon, Argamenon or whatever his name is with Heckyl trying to fight his way out with his tentacle big penis.
But forget all that, because Davi Santos is playing his own cousin/great grandson, etc.. after Tyler Navarro has a very mature fart joke while hiding from the graffiti artist.
NAWT!

Are they cutting episodes on their unnecessary guests of the week that they have the Rangers play their own cousins?

For whatever reason, Riley decides to intervene, when the Zandarian Knight Ivan complains about the graffiti artist.
Apparently, graffiti being art is a meme now.
HAHAHAHAHA!
HAHAHAHAHAH!
HJAHAHAHAHA!

At this moment, I'm wondering if they're going to go the lame hair pulling moment of Jack and Jill, where Adam Sandler dresses up as his own female twin cousin. But they don't even do that right.

So Riley intervenes and gives Ivan's "cousin" a smoothie.
Why? Does that have anything to do with his character? Is Riley the heart of the team now? Human resources? Da fuq does dis have to do with ANYTHING?! He just met the cousin too.

Oh, Riley, empathizes with him cuz of his graffiti.
Cuz of cleaning it up?!

Art's ok if it's done on other people's people propety.
Throwing paint on yourself makes you an artist.
HAHAHAHAHA!
HJAHAHAHAHA!
HAHAHAHA!

No throwing paint on yourself makes yourself a Power Ranger if you want to count facts.

Why'd they put a T-Rex in the graffiti if the episode was about Riley?

When you finally get to the Japanese footage you realize it's an adaptation thing. That's all this episode was an adaption. Very little storytelling involved. Just adapting. This was pretty much equally as bad as Samurai and especially Megaforce, except that they did worse by writing their own story.

So Ivan atttempt to teach his cousin about art.
His cousin draws a pose of his cousin after seeing Renaissance-ish art, cuz y'know that was like thousands of years right Ivan? I mean it's fantasy, but I have no idea where this goes within Power Rangers canonicity.
Oh wait. Ivan's disgusted.
Why?
Cuz he replaced the horse in the previous photo with that of a motorcycle.
Ivan's appalled.
Cuz he's a knight. And motorcycles hunt knights?
Cuz his parents were murdered by a motorcycle?

Why would a chivalrous knight throw his cousin, his family's art out, if he's supposed to be a gentleman?

What is amazing though is that Davi Santos plays two different characters and reacts accordingly although the script is shit.

So later, it's revealed in the episode that Sweet Tooth, and two other dudes' plan from Agamemnon is that they want to switch the Rangers' bodies.
Why?!
What kind of logic does that follow?
Ok, so they're not used to the weapons, but then they even fix that later.

Riley has problems dubbing himself in ADR.

Then when everyone gets back to the base, they complain about the painting and the random dumpster it's in.

Ivan why do you give a shit? It's the exact same photo as the last one except it has a motorcycle in it, you motorcyclist!

And then they for whatever reason in addition to paying Riley and Ivan to dub themselves and other people, pay the suit actors and voice actors of Xenowing and Keeper to show up for like one sentence.

Also, I'm not sure of the depth of Keeper's powers, but you figure he would be like a pagan Space God or something and just like turn the Rangers back into their own bodies.

So then Ivan in Riley's body goes over to his cousin to the obvious in any kids show that, he just wanted to be like his friend/cousin/Uncle Grandpa or whatever.

Why didn't they just have Riley and Ivan switch bodies earlier to save on the budget?

And then the Rangers fight the monsters again. I don't recall why or how that got triggered, since my brain is fried like an egg at this point at how poorly presented this episode was.

The Rangers pose with different suit and explosion flames, which is pretty cool, although mainly Japanese footage.
The Rangers switch weapons, which is sorta obvious to do in the first place, against a bunch of monsters that aren't that powerful to begin with.
And then the monsters switch the Ranger bodies again to throw the Rangers off.
Ok cool.
Xenowing shows up in an attempt to defeat the monsters.
And then they switch his body with one of the monsters in an attempt to defeat the monsters. To give them a really big upper hand.
Ok cool.
That was clever.
Although, I even had problems with that. I may be nitpicking, but like it's like they tried hard this episode anyway, so why not?

And then Tyler does what I think was really improperly edited by destroying the body switching device while not confirming if that'd work or if they'd just stay in their new bodies forever.
Like, seriously, he's the main character, the serious dark one and that's the move he does?

So they all kill off the bad guy with stock footage.

And then Ivan has a brain freeze cuz he drank a smoothie. Cuz tough knights do that.
Cuz they're rough.
End of episode.

Like I don't get why they don't just do an episode on Heckyl. There's no reason to adapt this episode. You paid for a set where the villains can show up in US footage. So use it. It'll probably be dismantled and a whole bunch of shit later, so who cares?
I guess it's slightly about him because it's about mistaken, but no- fuck you. You guys don't know what the hell you're doing.
Like I mentioned how they could've spent less time and money on the Riley and Ivan switch, but switching bodies still would've made the episode bad, just cheaper and production a bit more logical.
Xenowing's body switch could've worked like the imposter in Lightspeed Rescue etc..
They could've had a monster switch bodies the whole season and not let the Rangers find out.
And why have Davi Santos play two characters? Did they cheapen out on unnecessary guests of the week budget that they had to do that? Cuz then they still have to pay post to have two Davi Santoses in the episode.

Rose McIver in "Petals of the Wind" (Lifetime Movie)

Her scene is of that of a Black Swan parody nearly half a decade later.
There's a lot of talk of sins. Father abuse.

There's a lot of soap opera drama.

Kamen Rider Ex-Aid trailer review

They mention the 45th Anniversary of Kamen Rider for some odd reason, although I don't really know what exactly the 45th Anniversary has to do with anything.
So for the first minute they really milk the MD/Gamer idea.
It's shot in bright lights too, making it a more casual, kid friendly deal.
It already looks like there's multiple Riders early on.
Kiriko look alike is in this.
It has a Fourze feel with Chibi-fat suit Ex-Aid.
The show should be good for selling toys.

Since I don't know Japanese I can only speculate the second half:
Did the doctor teleport nto a game. Does he have Extra Lives since it's a video game?

Kaizoku Sentai Hurricanger 5 Years Later: Episode 25

Kaizoku Sentai Gokaiger Episodes 25-6

Despite being initially impressed, it's not had a big hold on me.
It has great ninja effects.
It has an excuse.
That end battle was basically a crossover fight.

Who is Satorakura Jr? I get that he's supposed to be a joke of a character, but that joke is rather lazy and one note. Is he out for the death of his father of 10 years or something?

Insarn beats them up.
Gokai Yellow gets her boobs grabbed despite being the better fighter of the two females.

Maybe they could've made them different from their parents.

Doesn't have the Goraigers or Shurikenger, the larger appeals of the series.

I think it would've been cool for the Hurricangers to fight the Gokaigers out of suit for the powers.

Just fighting Satorakura Jr
And then Sandayu Jr

Live and Aba are used vs them by the fighting veterans.

The Pocket Dimension is sorta lame and could've been replaced with anything. There's no reason why anyone would've gotten hit by that.

Kaizoku Sentai Hurricanger: Episode 26 5 Years Later

The Hurricangers stand despite being supposedly captured.
Why use Barizorg when Joe isn't out there? Maybe to be different, but doesn't feel fitting. Him vs Gai could've worked. Gai using Dekabreak to dodge bullets would be cool too.
I sorta don't know about not having the Hurricangers not know what would be in the sack, and get captured trying to save them.
But if you're going to do that, you figure Doc or Gai would save the day solving puzzles.
Having Insarn fight the girls, and Barizorg fight all the non-Red was fitting though, it didn't do much with Joe there.
The Sword Attack by both Red on Satorakura was good.

Kaizoku Sentai Gokaiger 12 review 5 years later

Joe wants to protect kids.
I regret not seeing a darker Joe as it could've showed him being ruthless before and how that could've been the reason why he was a Zangyack or pulled into it.
However, killing kids is no doubt dark, so why not?
Maybe he's afraid they'll become like him.

Insarn teases Cyborg Barizorg.
Barizorg scoffs at her for being inferior to him.

The former Cid regretably had no facial movements.
Cid is my sempai.

Warz Gill is still injured.

Eating food.

Marvelous tells a story of saving Joe. It's a bit flaky, but looks really cool action wise.

Kaizoku Sentai Gokaiger Episode 11 5 Years Later review

The opening starts with Joe doing Samurai stances in a bunch of Sakura trees showing his strength yet the same time his long hair feminine like the Sakura.
Doc can't match him.
An enemy ship shows up.

Opening Credits.

The Prince Walz Gil is frustrated and beats up everyone.

The Gokaigers see people in traditional Japanese garb train in kendo.
They ask if they're Samurai.
Joe recalls his tough training as a former member of Zangyack. His comrade Cid makes sure he's ok.
It's about as dark an episode it gets.
Cid shows off his special sword technique.
Ahim as Joe what's the matter?
Luka and Ahim discuss what's the matter with Joe at the ship's flagpole.

Samurai. Shinken Red.
Princess Shinken Hime doesn't like Pirates.
No mention of the Red River demons being Pirates.
Marvelous ducks.
Joe goes one on one with Hime.

The Prince's father sends a special troop for the Prince.
Not sure if this is the first time the Gokaigers all fight out of suit.
It's the first time the Prince steps on Earth though.
Barizorg deflects Marvelous' bullets. Pirate scum.

Tanba wants to release the Ranger Keys
Hime wants this to play out.
Joe's left. Wants to settle something alone.

Kaizoku Sentai Gokaiger vs Uchu Keiji Gavan The Movie review: 5 years later

This was pretty good.
The beginning starts with a scene of Dol fighting the Gokaigers. It did look a bit like something was off screen shooting at them and there was too much CGI, but it was exciting.

They also wasted the opportunity to use MagiDragon vs Dol.

Gavan captures the Gokaigers.

His teleport sequence looks quite accurate.

Gavan lazily does the turn to good, after naively just believing everything his so-called boss that everyone knew was a villain says. Now that the script's out of the way, can we continue.

Gavan II I'll call is in a more red-dish suit. Later on, he uses Red Lasers and Light Sabres compared to Gavan. He's really cool. He sorta reminded me of the Rider Hunter later on.

Seeing Kenji Ohba's 3 toku roles, I really do wonder why he was never a Kamen Rider since he's been here since Battle Fever J.

I don't get why the Battle Kenya Key can do lightning.

It was cool seeing a cameo from so many of the Super Sentai villains.

The flirting felt a bit whorish from both the human woman and guys in suits.
Alligator guy from Abaranger
Vancuria
Dark Shadow
The Go-onger villains flirting with the
Fly.

Go-busters cameo was a good cameo, but I would've like to have seen more i.e. something unique like having Basco hold onto the powers prior to the end of the series, since he was running out anyway. He also could've added on Metal Heroes and Kamen Rider powers till the end.

The budget in the end spent on Marvelous being saved by Gavan when young is sort of a waste. They never add to it, and it's not that great of a payoff for a storyline anyway.

Power Rangers Ninja Storm Episode 1 review, "The Prelude to a Storm" is a really well paced, executed script to screen first five minutes

A little bit of background between me and Ninja Storm:
I was a dumbass teenager who didn't give a shit about Saban losing the brand. It wasn't cuz of shit like Kid Rangers, or Justin or the cast getting fired in Mighty Morphin, but I just didn't really know what the fuck that meant.
I watched Ninja Storm every morning it was out on ABC Saturday Morning, despite liking Wild Force more, despite not even realizing Wild Force had changed stations, despite watching the End of The Power Rangers. (It doesn't make sense what I wrote, but you sorta get what I mean...)
My main memory was liking the Thunder Bros concept, it not turning as legendary as Tommy or Burai, being disappointed Cam was the Sixth Ranger, that Cyber Cam existed, laughing at the villains in a LOL not actually laughing way, and being horribly disappointed with the Shane arc.
What was my end result after 10-15 years later?

One major problem with the intro is that they show what Ninja Storm is in the credits prior to it supposedly being a surprise that they're ninja students.
Tori looks at her watch, signalling something important is distracting her from the live and death situation of recreational surfing.
Shane hangs out with his skateboarding friends without discussing through exposition that he's a skateboarder, instead doing the moves and explaining what his athletic abilities are.
Dustin is introduced to friends in his motor place that is actually
Rock music. Grungier.
Boo, remember me, is a sign that he's a ninja sneaking up on her.

They are shot using dialogue on in a van where a lot of stuff happens.
The van tells a story, with its bright blue, showing youth, that it's Tori's color, that it bumps like crazy, possibly having another backstory, about why it's like that due to origin or preference.

Dustin talks about Power Rangers.
Tori doesn't believe.
Dustin reflexive.
Yet, Shane is the one using the mirror, being the risk minded. (Is he though?) Aren't they all?
Tori, logical. Drives the car.

The forest is a big contrast to the city.
It makes the episode and journey feel bigger.

When they get to the forest, the Rangers are normally in center.

To use the ninja effect and in addition go in the point of view of the rangers, they use blurry pans, a very non special effect to get across the idea of ninjas and ultra high reflexes.

There are some special effects with the ninja shadow attacks.

They make a cut so that the ninjas go from not there to there.

They cut from the Rangers with clothes to Rangers throwing clothes to having ninja clothes.

Is Dustin an homage to Saban's Masked Rider or Power Rangers Turbo with his humor?

In fact, in contrast, the whole intro reminds you all the friggin time who they are, which is very expostionary.

Power Rangers Mystic Force Episode 30, "The Return" review

Toby recaps everything.
It's not voice over, but it's expository. Not much is being done with the setting of the Rockporium.
However, we do get to see the characters react. I legit feel like they don't treat some of the stuff that happened seriously and it works.
Leelee Phineas
Toby and Leelee's mom.

Udonna is dr strange or the venture bros equivalent of sr stange
She goes to the underworld which I don't recall
Koragg comes back

Jenji is absolutely wasted. Doesn't fight anyone. Does a fire heart laundry joke.
Fire heart himself is barely in the episode wasted why I don't like.

The voice actors set up that the Master is in the hand of the Ten Terrors
Maroon is storyline about not wanting to harm others is boring and fails since Koragg already has that code.
I don't get why he plays with a ball and hits
Xander doesn't at all think that Vida isn't fighting matoombo. A line like did he take your powers would be nice.
Matoombo destroying the electricity to summon the Master could be a ruse.

Luckily the ten terrors don't use this against them

Gekkor goes after matoombo wounding him
Vida out of character takes the Solaris train to save matoombo

I guess they need to summon the master anyway

And despite being old they are not aware

Matoombo doesn't really have an arc. He just wants to not be a bad guy for no reason sorta like Jack and SPD last season. Like you figure this would've occurred millions of years prior. They could
Just make him another Koragg.

It is pretty sad when matoombo dies and sacrifices himself to protect Xander. As odd as Xander's character was, and even Itassis makes fun of it, it was cool for him to have a moment this episode.

Michael Bacon in VR Troopers, Episode 4, "Lost Memories"

The episode "Lost Memories" involves a lady's amnesia before going into something more. She shows up at the steps of Tao Dojo, because of course the Girl and Boy Scouts save the day.

JB contacts the Missing Persons Hotline and notifies the police department. I'm current studying Grimlord, and I do wonder, what if Grimlord had taken control of the Police Department. He owned housing as mentioned in this episode, can tear down buildings, and has control of the mayor, a major influencer of who at least gets chosen for sheriff or police commissioner.

JB claims to know the Skugs, which is weird, because their trope is sorta like any "Matrix Agent-like" stranger is a Skug.

It later on becomes more of a Ryan based episode, but does use more of JB than him ironically. In fact, kids would definitely like him a bit more just because he is the monster defeater of the day. Then again, he isn't the main character.
JB sucks fuck you Ryan and your "rpretty thing" we're going.

JB defeats the monster of the day as Kaitlin takes on Ivar.
I wish the monster had more of an intro. They really don't use much Spielban footage to set up what the JB bad guys are.

Did Toei make Kamen Rider Amazons because Ghost did so poorly?

There's no evidence of this and their business schtick is now is basically just keep producing till something sticks.

Michael Bacon in VR Troopers Episode 1: The Battle Begins Part 1

"The Battle Begins, Part 1" introduces JB very well, even if it is a Ryan centered episode. There actually aren't many episodes where Ryan isn't featured as a main character, since he does the Flashback at the Korean Temple, thinking of his dad's lessons, but there are.
Ryan and him are shown as equals by giving them near identical bikes and motorcycle costumes. Oddly though he sits in the back of the car, when they go to meet the Professor.
He gets the win for Tao Dojo, while you normally save the last fight for someone who's the best fighter. (Maybe there's a technical reason for it too, albeit the karate tournament didn't really get into tactics. Also, it was 3-2, so maybe there was a moment where Kaitlin was the first fighter, possibly making her an equal, but it was probably Tao.
He's a mix of Zack/Tommy in terms of him being second in command and constantly beating bad guys, and has Billy's brains, giving him the equivalent of all Mighty Morphin Power Rangers' male characters, outside of Jason. He tells Ryan how VR works.

Kaitlin goes straight after a monster.
Editing error: Kaitlin says she'll distract the Ape Rocket Punch monster, but it's JB who runs straight at him.

JB happens to get close to her and Laser Lance Command.
JB tries to locate Ryan with the Professor's assistance after he disappears.

His character was not originally supposed to be in the series, as it was originally only Metalder based, especially if you've watched the Cybertron pilot with Jason David Frank and no Spielban footage. Kaitlin had an equivalent and Tao was still involved.
I'd assume the dog or the Kaitlin equivalent or Tao would've helped Ryan at the end of the episode of Cybertron.
No Rocket Punch Ape monster footage vs Kaitlin and JB though.
There's also a bit of Power Rangers knowing their powers without ever using them thanks to the knowledge given from their technology trope.

Also, I forget the next episode, but I would have JB go after Grimlord with Ryan resting.
JB can Han Solo, Ryan saying he owed him one.
I also wonder what was the status of the Grimlord's minions going through the barrier, since JB stopped a monster, but Ryan failed.

Thoughts during Chaser spit take scene

Why didn't they make another Chaser?
Could've been an upgrade.

I was never really a fan of Chaser being the third Rider for this show:
1) 2 motorcycles on a non-motorycle Rider show
2) motorycle-car-motorcycle
3) He had nothing to do after he became Rider
4) they killed him off anyway. So what was the point?
5) it just seemed like a Disney, don't hire more actors, and just turn some random main character into a Ranger thing like with RJ and Sam.

I guess his whole arc later was to save Banno and Gou, but whatever.

Kamen Rider Kabuto Episode 11

Shibuya references
Kagami feels connected to Kabuto after the fight. Seems really homosexual, and I think they teased that on purpose. Possible.
Drake and the facial of death to a human.
A scared woman is turned pretty.
Challenge between Kabuto and Drake.
Kabuto says that Kagami's partner shouldn't fall for him.

Dobotsu Sentai Zyuohger Episode 11 review

This episode was a bit simple.
Birdman and not the Galaxy Trio is discovered by Yamato and the others to be that of significance. His past ties to both the Zyumans and Yamato are revealed this episode.

Yamato struggles with deciding whether to tell the Zyumans who he thinks Birdman is revealing Birdman's location. He has a very important item in addition, yet Yamato has a connection to Birdman as well.

Will their be a Dekaranger-Jetman episode with Birdman?

Also, to spoil the point, Birdman is an opposite of the Zyumans. He's actually a Zyuman who hates Zyuland opposed to the rest of them. He's also the only method the Zyuman can get home, so they battle. Their fight and struggle for wanting to go back home is tested in this episode.

Yamato is back.

Dobotsu Sentai Zyuohger Episode 9 review

This was a really complicated episode, which is usually good.

MAJOR SPOILERS.

The episode had elements of Groundhog's Day. Making me sorta hope their new mech this episode would be a groundhog? (Then again time travelling mechanics would make this show for the heroes really cheap, albeit that would be a really cool shake up.

There's a really scary shot of an evil monkey, this episode.

Also, time is expressed by Amu, saying, Early how about lunch? Amu asks.

Hanayaider's Nightmare perfume is apparently the source of all the mishaps this episode. Also to note is that the bad guys are about games. Video games have you restart possibly from a save to replay the game.

It's revealed they're stuck in a recurring dream.
So of course, you have to wonder about the trope, till possibly the end of the series, When do they wake up? Do they ever win vs the bad guys?
There could be something even more surrealistic about playing videos and video games, whereas a real war happens in the world.
Zyuohger are in a tv show. Another false reality.

Again, this is really high concept stuff, and my episode of the first 10, if the next one doesn't beat this.

Also to note animals vs plants. You have to watering plants, while Sela is a major character in the episode.
Is it a monster or is a plant? Is it living despite neither being human nor animal?

Power Rangers Mystic Force Episode 25, "The Hunter" praises and lows

Nick gets a surprise. Sort of thematic.

Xander does his bad supervising. I got another laugh from him. His actor did a good job.

Vida says Toby's eye twitches. I hope her eye only twitches on twitch good job.

Also, it's sort of weird having Toby be inconsistent regarding whether they're good workers or not. Not to mention, should Nick win that award?

Maddy gets some moments. Although a bit lukewarm, she saves Nick's life, She also has a moment with him to reflect their journey. No actual touching though.

Nick wants to stay in Briarwood. It'd be cool if he mentioned their journey together to be friends, to add a little more stakes to the episode. Not to mention going back to Rootcore later.

leelee feels left out. It would've been cool if her and Clare became friends.

Speaking of which, Clare mentions how Udonna should depend on her since she's become a better sorceress. Clare has a little bit of Amy Adams turning her into a newt. A good moment for the two.

Mega horn sounds buckwheat. No racism just a weird thing
80s voice acting homage to like Cobra Commander and the Claw.

The animation for Oculus's fights although not as dark are still a bit scary to kids as bodies lay down.

Although I praise the Light storyline more now, the Battilizer feel still feels forced or maybe just not done well. He could've like meditated before getting the power or something.
There's also a bit too much fighting, not enough story.

Itassis wants to fight Megahorn over fighting Daggeron. The US Megahorn suit looks awesome with the extra green compared to the Japanese suit.

Phineas has a moment with Nick. Would've been cool to see a moment with him at the end of the episode. As much as I don't like Leelee, her moment in the end was great, and she proved that she belonged in the Rockporium.

What were your thoughts on the episode? Comment below.

Kamen Rider Kabuto Episode 3 review

The cafe scene was basically filler, not really discussing anything about Hiyori and Tendou, although getting us to learn  And if you don't like the cafe humor, it's a shame, but that's Kamen Rider pacing for you.

The interaction between the ZECT members was really good though establishing rules etc..

ZECT attempts to fight off a Worm, failing again, adding tension, although it sorta gets lost when they never win. (Alleviated later!)

The main meat was Gatack discussing not being able to trust Worms after they attempted to destroy Earth. However, there's not enough of a connection and he's not enough of a detective for all this to be valid, not to mention his blind devotion to ZECT, who can pretty much say anything and he'll eat it up.
In fact, in the end when he choose the wrong person as the Worm, possibly signifying how he choose the incorrect side in the series. Ironic, considering how normally lacksaidaisical empathic and used for comic effect he is in the series. Their discovery of the Worm is sort of a symbol of them discovering the truth behind the incident years ago.
However, you can empathize with Kagami as he doesn't want to help a guy who leads to the destruction of humanity.
Speaking of which, the Worm revealing itself was a bit lame for anyone who's watched the masterpiece known as John Carpenter's the Thing. Oh well. Not exactly the same audience anyway.
Mika Kikuchi sorta gets wasted, but good paycheck for her, being part of pop in the Japanese equivalent of the Screen Actor's Guild.

The rollercoaster effect was cool.

Also, on a final note remember who the man of the heavens is.

Disney's Power Rangers Mystic Force "Heir Apparent Part 1"

Imperious meets with Koragg.
Imperious contemplates manipulating Koragg vs opposing him and having Koragg with the Master.

Daggeron and Nick duel. Regretably feels short since he mainly dueled with Chip. Also, Nick was severely again underdeveloped despite being the main focus.

They go over the story.
Clare's mother died.
Leanbow was gone.
Too bad they didn't keep the original actor. He looked impressive.
Good resolution for that.
A dark secret could've made that over the top tho.

I would've liked it if Clare had taken over her mother's role.

Kamen Rider Kabuto Episode 2 review

Basically a set up from the last episode. I should've combined the review.
Sets up.
ZECT's main characters are interesting, who I forgot to mention before.
The smart hardworking shipper.
The captain.
The bad ass.

Clock Up.

There was also comparisons to Terminator with Kabuto's invincibility and the Halloween Michael Myers trope.

Hiyori gets introduced this episode. Significant.
The Heisei G1 cafe was re-introduced.
There's also no reference to the children in the previous episode.

ZECT Rider

Owls. Combined with darkness.

Does this go anywhere by the end of the series?

I don't recall them ever letting ZECT become the bad guy vs humans and Worms in the end.
Although, that in itself is pretty dark.

Power Rangers Dino Super Charge Episode 8 "Rag and Riches" notes

Ivan is the main character of the episode. He begins not knowing technology, signing stuff. How much did Saban spend on that? Later not knowing currency, which is fool hardy, later having ownied gold for 800 years.
If he didn't understand the time value of money, it would be more understandable.
Forget that the Dino Charge stuff is technology.

Kendall is discussing an autograph

Ivan damages a rich man's rich antique. Sir Ivan is a very valuable antique also. Bum bum tsh.
How about Haim Saban show up in the episode and give them the money?
Gold for everyone! Money money money! Hubba hubba hubba!

Batman '89.

Make em greedy.
Not exploding money.

Not like they could've made them mercenaries or anything.
They didn't!

Mr. Smith.
Ivan

Take Ivan, he's not worth anything.

"Just give him the two million dollars."

The museum doesn't make enough money for two million dollars.
How poorly run is this museum? How much does Kendall get paid for that suit?
Two billion would've worked more.

I think Ivan is represented by the director of the episode, not knowing how money works. would eventually get paid, use money, see other people use money.
Ivan robbed a bank. This episode's robbery alright!
How does Ivan get stuff if he doesn't have money? Does he barter? Haggle? Steal? Ask nicely?!

Haim Saban obviously didn't tell him he'd get paid or how to use money.

"Treasure" their last moments.
Ha-
ha-
ha.

"Heckyl trust me."
You want Heckyl of all people to trust you? Do you trust Heckyl?

Why the fuck are you even on this show Heckle?

Fury's still here, even tho Tyler found his dad.
No Shelby shipping
No dino shekllby
No kendall vs shelby

Fury's plot was to use Greed to fight the Rangers.
The Rangers use Greed to fight him anyway.
Useless monster.

Tylerury.

Ivan robs.

The monsters need a leada.

Rich person's bodyguard.

Waltons and Haim Saban famous off kid labor.

Vault.

Native American armor. Tyler Navarro.

Pendant broken but still on the monster.

Monster explosion without exploding visual.

I blame Gold Coins. not Golgom.

Blame it on Gold coins.

Grand mama

He's giving away $2 million.
Sorta funny.
The bodyguard in the end was great too.

Dobotsu Sentai Zyuohger Episode 6 analysis

The idea of giving up ones power to make someone else live and stronger is of that of the Lion King and the Circle of Life. We eat meat and plants after killing them so that we may live.
This is really dark and they don't really make TOO many jokes during this episode. Not knowing who the Zyuohgers are, leaving Uncle out while they try to figure out what happened to Larry.
Larry may die so that humans, zyumans and/or Yamato may survive. The idea of Zyuman power from cubes is interesting.
Look at those shades.

No one died, humans are the ones who succeed, it's done at the expense of Larry and no one seems to care.

Disney's Power Rangers Mystic Force, "Dark Wish, Part 3"

This was a good resolution episode.
They tease Koragg vs Nick, which should've been done more not only since it's cool in Magiranger, but cuz it's cool here.
The Oblivion/Beasts are defeated.
The birthday wish from Toby was a nice trick. Sorta led up too, but not quite.

Disney's Power Rangers Mystic Force Episode 17, "Ranger Down"

Koragg is seen drained of magic.
Why? I don't know. I don't care. Obviously they don't.

Toby-Necrolai shipping. Cuz they have a Vampbrea fetihs.

Why are they even at Rockporium?

Weird title as it's about Jenji. Not about Rangers.
It's the opposite of their summoning call "Ranger Up."

The plot is about as bad as I know about Fire Heart.
Fire Heart makes Jenji jealous. How fucking old is Jenji? A million. Why is he jealous of a dragon?

As much as I dislike John Tui though, his explanation of why Jenji is famous sorta makes up for it. Sorta.
Tui's storytelling of Jenji was formerly banished was told from a man who was like that of an ancient knight or warrior. It worked. Too bad it's told not shown.
The ADR still has problems though.

Imperious is barely a factor.

The music is really shitty.

Screamer's Japanese power is cool.

Phineas is odd. However, when he goes apeshit insane dancing a New Zealand jig its great,
till he gets Nickelodeon vomitted..

Piggy shows up. I guess cuz everyone feels trash, but really just cuz they can since his actor is on the show.

Madison and Jenji shipping. Lots of shipping this episode!

Jenji is a baby abandoner, babynapper, it's camp, an homage to classic fairy tales I guess, but otherwise is sorta really creepy and eerily done, even if it is with a CGI dragon.

Nick is wearing Jason clothes.

Necrolai shipping.

Phineas' tale to Daggeron and Udonna about a missing baby sorta makes up for the awkwardness of this episode though. It's not as epic in a replay or if you watched Magiranger, but otherwise is a great twist which would keep you watching the show.

The problem about the Rockporium in Power Rangers Mystic Force

The following finally occurred to me at the "Dark Wish" arc point.
Why do we even care about the Rockporium? It's not the Mystic Force Rangers' dream to work there. It's a minimum wage job. They just goof off for a lackluster unfun demonstration of laziness. Albeit Toby's their friend despite never having a story regarding why we should care other than that he's not evil and that he's on the show.
Ernie is a beloved character in Mighty Morphin yet he somewhat has the same waste of time that Toby's character does. On the other hand, Ernie set up the 90s setting and Bulk and Skull pranks. They had chemistry. As much as I enjoy Toby's actor, he doesn't have much to do comedy or music wise.

They don't run a Rockporium corporation of stores.
Vida doesn't become a music star and sponsor the Rockporium.

We don't even get the lame dead end job thing.

It's more wasted than the Madison-Nick tease, and is nearing the use of Ernie or the Big Bad Beetleborgs comic book shop. Koragg disappoints as a hero, and his exposition on honor and being a knight doesn't
Rant over.

Dobutsu Sentai Zyuohger Episode 3 review

The Amu-Yamato relationship established this episode while neither groundbreaking or critically acclaimed does exposition not accessible and fan friendly till Go-buster.
Amu White Tiger goes around shopping before encountering Yamato Red Eagle.
She convinces him she found it when its just a cake, fashion stuff, etc..

Why didn't they just call if in trouble?

The bus, Zyuland

The characters are credible.

Mario

Fun

More Zyuoh Cubes a la Gaoranger.

Power Rangers Super Dino Super Charge Super Episode 4, "A Date with Danger"

Oh boy. It feels like I finally care about Chases character instead of the Red Rangers since they spend so much time with his character and regretably failing. It's sad that I don't care about the red pink romance. Cuz they're really good and interesting characters, but it's just sorta missed and the series had such a waning start after false destroy the base starts that they don't execute or tease only to annoyingly not follow up on.

Ignore all the bad stuff.
Chase has an actual character now. Way better than Xander’s. Davies will have a career after Dino Charge.
Tyler actually gets his dad plot in an episode. It’ll probably be the only one prior to the finale which is sad considering he’s the Red Ranger and this is neither SPD nor RPM but the standards are so low now, I’ll take it.

It’s been 24 episodes but they finally got the Chase character to work. Good use of Tyler finally. I actually had a legit laugh.

Black Dino Charge Man Forever.

Power Rangers Mystic Force Episode 10, "Petrified Xander" and a little bit of Gatekeeper

I'm petrified alright.
There's a call pun when the Rangers have phones for some odd reason too.
It's actually not that bad of an episode. Not something I consider Power Rangers or comical, but it's for that demographic they want.
Watching it without Magiranger glasses, although ones expectation is that everyone should enjoy the show, I can see some fans enjoying it opposed to others. I myself didn't like it till 10 years later. I was annoyed by Xander, didn't get his perfection, egotistic character, as something audiences would enjoy, but enjoy it now. Understanding how his character works, as unremarkable and lame he is, it's still a character.
PUNS!
As annoying as those puns were, I feel like developing a sense of humor with my punny brother it got better.
I legit felt for Vida when she felt bad that Xander may die.

Clare comes in handy saving Xander, when it could've been Udonna.
The fists don't really make sense compared to Magiranger, but the spell is really just a MacGuffin this episode anyway. Adds a bit to Clare, even if the character could've been consolidated at not much really helps her character.

Also, I don't really learn anything about Xander, and this was a poor lead up to Gatekeeper, which itself was poor, because of its lacking of introducing a cool character like Rin was in Magiranger, but was a good use of resources.

I would've picked Phineas. or a lesser known extra. A fairy Gatekeeper would've made stuff more interesting.

Toby. He basically can find out who the Rangers are anyway.

Power Rangers Super Dino Super Charge Episode 2 Cons

  1. Power Rangers version of Jungle Fury Road: they fucking advertised that they were going to trash the base last week. Instead, this dumb shit happens. Yeah, storm the base.
  2. The Rangers are completely oblivious to the fact that he's a bad guy despite knowing his name is Heckyl. Is Disney still running this company? Is there some sort of Power Rangers x Inside Out crossover I'm unaware of? Albeit, realistically you shouldn't assume that the guy is a bad guy based on his name. It's fucking Power Rangers tho, so fuck that.
  3. Snide knows where the Rangers base is. If they had destroyed the base, it wouldn't be a problem.
  4. They write that out in the dumbest way possible. Heckyl looks like a dumbass for not remembering he has the amnesia drink with him.

My dad saying how the previous President of Taiwan isn't really the President and how it relates to modern day toku

My dad recently said the President of Taiwan wasn't really the President.
I asked "what (he) meant by that?"
He didn't mean it like you would in the US. He just meant that Taiwan wasn't better or worse. The President took no risks. No scandals. Nothing happened. The President was pretty much not the President and fairly non-existent to Taiwan.

What does that have to do with toku?

Modern toku corporations seem really dumb.
Say what you want about Den-O, but when that lady got pregnant, they had to change something about the show.
Mighty Morphin Power Rangers was a big hit. So the crew tried to keep the success going.
They kept the Green Ranger for longer and brought back Jason David Frank.
They didn't change the suits despite Dairanger footage.
They fired Thuy, Austin and Walter, which I debate wasn't a good idea but did do stuff with the mythos.
Then they brought the White Ranger anyway.
They brought the Aliens of Aquitar.
Then they finally brought in the new suits.
They Rocky got injured and had to be replaced.
They they replaced all the Turbo Rangers.
Then they replaced all of Zordon canon.

See stuff actually happened with management.

Everything post-Disney isn't as big of a hit.
Nothing really changes.
I mean I guess the same happened with Masked Rider.

But still. They're doing terrible and they're not doing anything is way worse than they're successful and not changing stuff.

Power Rangers Mystic Force Episode 8, "Stranger Within, Part 1" Review

Power Rangers Mystic Force, Episode 8, "Stranger Within, Part 1" still has the flaws that I recall the first time I watched it. Vida being a vampire was campy and it wasn't like Magiranger where it had a sort of preschool feel to it. Vida's actress had no idea what to do when she acted like a vampire, has no desire to portray one, and I can't really blame her.
She has a tan also, which really doesn't help when casting her as a pale skin vampire.
Also, there was really no storyline reason to copy this plot other than the Koragg zord fight scene. Just really lame and lazy in a show about entertainment and creativity.
Her wanting to fit in could've been worked into the DJ Fly storyline a bit better.

Chip becoming a part of Count V was nonsensical, but is played by a character who say this. The Rangers not believing Chip's belief in there not being vampires is soo obvious, cuz 1) it's true and 2) Chip believes in the nonsensical.
If it wasn't done in the Bruce Kalish fashion of Strange Times of Blake Holsey High title themes, I'd go with "Not a hero, just a friend" or "friend for life" as the title of the episode.

The episode could've been writing even better with having Vida as the main character in the beginning of the episode and Chip as the main character later, albeit it's debatable that they did that right.
Vida being the strong one makes sense, and defending Chip for being picked on. I may have even had this moment watching this when I was in college. It'd even be cool if Chip called Vida, his superhero. And Vida gives him back the favor.

However, this is me watching the episode and figuring out the process. Writing and then directing without that knowledge is very different, and being on that type of television schedule I could've screwed that up. That, and the fact, that they probably do all Rockporium scenes together, Rootcore, outside scenes, etc. shows that they did make a rather cohesive show given the shortcuts they did.

Chip does US fighting footage scene in the DJ Fly scene. DJ Fly could also refer to flying bats, which is an interesting US adaptation of that.

They also could've adapted the Vida being bad reveal into something else if you know spoilers.

That was a really good use of a cliffhanger.

Kamen Rider Dragon Knight debut response

I didn't know Ryuki
It was new
It wasn't Disney.
It was original.
Even if I didn't know Ryuki.
I only recall the pilot and when all the Ventara Riders meet.
I enjoyed its homage to VR Troopers.
Len was a cool Terminator Bruce Wayne character.

Kamen Rider Dragon Knight Episode 3, "Kamen Rider Incisor" Review

Kit doesn’t want to fight Incisor for whatever reason. He backs off.

It's revealed that his Dad kicks Incisor out of the house and his friends are douchebags. Incisor himself is still selfish and totally unlikeable. Could’ve been darker. Impress girls.

Incisor trains on a rooftop like Len does.
Len agrees to train Kit
Len overtrains.
Sounds so lousy saying a million dollars.

Kamen Rider Dragon Knight Episode 1, “Search for a Dragon” Positives and Negatives

I already (link) previously explained (link) how Dragon Knight was probably inspired by the VR Troopers/Empire Strikes Back storyline. (Yay, VR Tropers fans!)

Other stuff I want to explore is the constant hallucinations of Kit Taylor seeing his dad, the Taylors’ friend who helps Kit out of juvenile hall, Maya’s role or lack thereof in this episode and how the writing is crafted a bit better in this episode than in others.

So anyway, the hallucinations are interesting, although I don’t recall if they actually add up to anything in the end. Is Kit crazy? Is his dad actually in another world or is it the other dude as revealed later on?

Also, what’s with this character that bails him out? I really don’t recall him in the show! (Yeah, some fan I am I know.)

Maya does nothing this episode, but it’s a debut/intro so it’s fine.

However, the main strength of the episode is the crafting of Len’s character (costume design and mission) in addition to Kit’s story about looking for his father prior to the two meeting at the end of the episode. That was well crafted and something I recall quite well.

Also, dumb Kit running into a spider monster sorta ruins that, but whatever. The Dragon chase is cool.

Power Rangers Mystic Force Episode 1, "Broken Spell" Part 1 Review

This show was made after the critical and commercial success of Power Rangers SPD. This was Executive Producer Bruce Kalish's second season. Executive Producer Greg Aronowitz moved on to the Guild and other projects.

I myself am doing this review because of the hits the site has been getting over Mystic Force. Toys R Us advertisements of the toys 10 years after it came out is a factor as well.

I'd like to divide this review into three parts:

  1. The opening
  2. The main characters
  3. The ending, especially why you shouldn't believe in magic

"Broken Spell" uses a great number of extras, and at least seemingly number of extras through CGI, compared to the Mighty Morphin days of just 10 people being on screen at a time. Technology is always a factor in these types of series, and modernizing despite having ancient characters is always interesting.
It also makes the story feel bigger and audiences get to know more characters and more stories.

Some woman who isn't Kimberly, but looks like her is in a CGI field. A dragon appears.
Interestingly the ancient ones in mystic force have armor but it isn't Power Rangers spandex
Irony of every day kids. A Juxtaposition.

Also, oddly enough, the Great War only takes place a few years ago, although you'd assume a long time ago, since there were talks of Ancients and it having magic. It's not really often addressed, which I will in a future article.

Having a young woman with red hair wear purple was a nice touch, I didn't notice till 10 years later.

However, a lot of stuff is wasted this episode, especially in the expensive Rockporium set scene.
They establish that Toby is the boss of the Rockporium, but spend way too much time doing so. He acts bossy, which is never part of his character later on, whereas they could've emphasized the fact.
And the true Toby of the series, (being misused that is) is Xander. He's represented as being the bossy one early on and later on, has nothing to do the rest of the series. A shame, considering he does such a good job later on in the Operation Overdrive crossover, albeit they needed a magician and having any would've done. They don't overstate how sort of bland and mishandled his character is making it seem even more of a waste and afterthought.
Chip I also have problems with. As a teenager/college kid I enjoyed his original take on superheroes, but he sorta has no sense or reality, still portraying a character rather than acting as one. He campily reacts to an earthquake and mortal danger pretending he's this type of nerdy superhero type. It'll probably really work now, since Power Rangers, DC and Marvel pretty much work in a , but with critical anti-Power Ranger eyes, I can really see people turned off by this character.
Vida is sort of short and to the point. She's a rocker and doesn't like pink. I'm not looking for anything A-list. However, you can debate how much she has to do in the show prior to those extents being eliminated from the show. The same applies to Madison, where her romance with Nick isn't really implied this episode and isn't properly executed in the end though.
Nick sorta yells too much like a coward, opposed too looking really tough like he should. Him not believing in magic.
Udonna is well acted by Peta Rutter, Rest in Peace. She plays a tropey old lady Obi-Wan character. They could've played more thematically with being a witch, but it's only a 20 minute episode and they have like 20 characters to introduce.

So, they go into the Woods, because some random old man who isn't a pedophile requests help. Teenagers in the 90s at least would've done it possibly to help the old man, but more realistically to challenge themselves and act tough. It's a kid's show about morality, so they do it, cuz it's the right thing to do.
Also, no map? No guide? Why would you live near haunted woods? Real haunted woods? And believe that they're haunted without moving?

This may sound a bit of criticism, and the direction does hurt.

However, it does add a bit of lore and mythos to the story, although a bit too tropey and honed in. It does gets itself across in the story, and it's a hero's journey thing, so why not?

SPOILER ALERT
So the old man who isn't a pedophile is an old lady who isn't a pedophile.

They get shot off away in a fairly decent amount of CG for its time and just straight out not being Mighty Morphin Remastered excusable. They shoot what looks like footage of them being rewound going into Rootcore, because of them screwing up the original footage or not having a good take or something going into Rootcore.

They get out of Rootcore, because they don't want to get Princess Amidalaed.

Why would a tough guy believe in magic? I dunno. Is Nick a tough guy? I dunno.
Nick believes in superheroes or something sorta bsed and mishandled. Let him believe in magic. Nope.
These are teenagers, not kids. Why would the believe in magic. My last point.

Believing in magic should work really well in this show, because of the large amount of CGI used in this episode in both the US and Japanese footage, however it doesn't.

So, they see magic and don't believe in it.
Then they sorta do magic, because they're about to die. If you're any Rob Ager fan like I am, you'd believe this would be an even lesser reason for audiences to believe in magic, and more like just believe in anything so that you can live getting beat up by a gang and a lady who could be in cahoot with them.
Nick's a tough guy supposedly, isn't tough and doesn't believe in magic. We don't know anything about his character, despite him being such a vital part of it, especially later on in the series, making us ponder why he doesn't know about magic? If this was something worth of Ager analysis, it'd be because he's the sane one and wants to fight his way out, being a tough 80s action type. It isn't the case. They could've made a bit of an effort, campier or darker.

So SPOILER ALERT,
Old lady, who's actually his mother tortures her son, and makes him believe in magic, Brian De Palma Carrie style. He gives in. Happily ever after. No more show.

The Star Wars franchise excels and not only believing in magic, but space magic to handle stuff even crazily.
Overall, this episode executed the important stuff. Establishing the lore. It's critical results may be mixed, but I felt that they did a good job with what they wanted to do. Also kudos to them for making a show, I didn't hate as much as I should at an age that was way beyond the average of which people enjoyed the show.
Here's to hoping it's not completely lost by 40.

Power Rangers Mystic Force "Broken Spell" Part 1 improvements suggestions

Keep in mind, Power Rangers has been a franchise about low cost labor and multiple legal issues in addition to constant need or writing since there's like 30 episodes a year and so much time to make 20 episodes, add CGI and edit and take the best scenes from the dailies.
So this'll probably never happen. But as a former film critic, and frequent enjoyer or story and plot, why not?

Mystic Force has a theme of magic. What's really interesting about magic, is illusions and the unknown. Hellblazer, Star Wars and the works of Stanley Kubrick use subtleties to explain its story.

Get themes of the unknown and the horrific past censors. Granted, this was a Disney show at the time, but it's always what I found was fascinating about the show. The horror genre has had huge links to the supernatural whether through Pagan or Christian gods. Whether in the role of the dice, the idea of faith and belief, there's something fascinating yet very horrific regarding how the spirituality aspect of humans has dominated the Earth's culture since the creation of humanity. From the creation of pyramids, to the Inquisition, there are many things that could be explored with this theme.

Setting, as anyone who's ever played a Warner Bros deck building game, is also a key element in magical storytelling. The woods of England and Salemn were very inspirational to tales of monsters and other ficitional ideas. I don't want to dwelve too taboo-ish, but I feel like at least bringing up the idea, that the way of the Judeo-Christian-Islamic God going the way of the Greek-Roman mythos especially with current day statistics, and it'll be interesting what some elements of history and even now with Kamen Rider and Alternate Reality can turn up.
